“The Raising of Lazarus” “The Life of Christ: Chapter II”—Sermon #4. John 11:1-44. Pastor Erik J. Ferguson Sermon Idea: The Bible declares Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man. Body: I. Truth #1: God’s timing is always perfect. A. Jesus chose to wait before visiting Lazarus. B. Why did Jesus choose to wait before visiting His good friend Lazarus? --Jesus delayed His arrival because Lazarus’ death held a higher purpose: God would be glorified through the raising of Lazarus. II. Truth #2: Jesus understands our deepest emotions. A. Because Jesus was fully man, He wasn’t very different from you and me—Hebrews 4:15. B. Jesus openly expressed human emotions. --Jesus was angry. --Jesus was sorrowful. C. We serve a God that cares --1 Peter 5:7. III. Truth #3: The raising of Lazarus was an event of divine significance. A. The raising of Lazarus helped prove Jesus’ frequent claims of deity—John 6:35; John 8:12; John 11:25; Exodus 3:14. B. The raising of Lazarus pictured Jesus’ oneness with the Father. —John 10:30; John 14:9. C. The raising of Lazarus foreshadowed Jesus’ death and resurrection.
