Remember and Guard the Sabbath: ;
Remember and Guard the Sabbath for the purpose of keeping it Holy: ;
Remember and Guard the Sabbath by you and your house hold resting from ordinary labors and setting it aside for worship: ;
Remember and Guard the Sabbath because of creation:
The Sabbath Day was designated at creation and engrained in the rhythm of Adam’s life:
He was to cease from His labor of dominion and multiplying to observe the Sabbath
It was a time to contemplate God’s goodness, the progress of his own labors, and to taste the rest that would be enjoyed fully when his labors were done
His hope of reaching rest by his labor was lost in the fall.
Remember and Guard the Sabbath because of redemption:
Israel was saved not by their own action but God’s grace
Israel was to visibly demonstrate there trust in God and HIs provision by working six days and resting on the seventh
Israel was given a death penalty for those that violate the Sabbath, for in breaking it they demonstrate they don’t trust God ()
Israel rebelled and the sabbath became an ordinary day to them, but God still called them to return to it ()
Israel had Sabbaths once a week, once every seven years, and once every fifty years.
