How should we pray during this time of “social distancing”? How should we act toward one another? To Whom do we look for power?

Pray for the Care of God’s People (vv. 1-3)

Paul was addressing a situation in which there was a difference of opinion between mature and immature believers in their actions.
Paul told those who were strong in faith that they are obligated (lit. indebted) to bear the burdens of the weaker.
We are not to just do what pleases us, but look also to what is good and encouraging for others.
Romans 14:7–9 ESV
For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
Romans 14:7-9
Rom. 14:
Our example is Christ Jesus. He bore insults on our behalf. He did only what pleased the Father.
John 5:30 ESV
“I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
John 8:27–29 ESV
They did not understand that he had been speaking to them about the Father. So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
John 6:38 ESV
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.
John 6:38–40 ESV
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
John 8:29 ESV
And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
John
Pray that God would show you how to care for your fellow believers in Christ. It may be a phone call, a card, a text. It may be those who can get out picking up food and delivering it to those who need to stay in during these next few weeks.

Pray for Cooperation for God’s Praise (4-6)

Paul prayed that God would give the Roman believers endurance and encouragement through the instruction of the Scriptures.
Jesus prayed that we would be marked by unity in Him.
After praying that we would be sanctified through the Truth, Jesus said,
John 17:20–23 ESV
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
John 17:20–21 ESV
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
When the church is unified in the Lord Jesus Christ it brings glory to God and demonstrates to the world the reality of God’s power.
When the church is unified in the Lord Jesus Christ it brings glory to God and demonstrates to the world the reality of God’s power.
Pray that God would give you patience with others and encouragement through His Word during this season of “social distancing.” Pray that God would bring glory to His name through your life.

No matter what comes, God is on the throne! Jesus is Victor over Death! Jesus is building His church and we are confident in God’s power both to preserve us from evil and prepare us for our union with Him in heaven!
