Keeping Joy alive in the midst of crisis

Introduction

There’s an ole saying that’s been around since 1858 and it has undergone many revisions. People are like tea bags; Women are like tea bags; Men are like potatoes but all of these sayings end with the result of being placed in hot water. So, from a believer’s perspective: here it is: “Christians are like tea bags – You don’t know how strong they are until you put them in hot water.”
The events over the past couple of months and especially the past couple of weeks here in America, have brought about a feeling like the temperature is rising hasn’t it? And no, I’m not speaking of global warming. I’m talking about a world on edge and a virus on the march. In 2019 National Geographic aired 6 episodes of the sci fi thriller, The Hot Zone. It was based off of a best-selling 1994 nonfiction thriller authored by Richard Preston which was about the origins and incidents involving the Ebola Virus. Now I’ll certainly yield the accuracy of the mini-series to the pundits – but as for us today, it seems that we are all facing a HOT ZONE! That place which refers to an area that is considered to be dangerous because there is a high risk of infection!
Across the world and across our nation people are in social isolation, hunkered down in their homes or quarantined from the greater public. Our way of life has been severely altered and we are living in sudden change! The fear expressed by so many has reached staggering levels. And the way some respond to fear and desperation is often more fearful than the fear itself.
So, where do we turn for hope? Where do we turn for direction? Where do we turn for peace in a chaotic season of life? Allow me to suggest to you that we turn to the same place that offers hope, direction, and peace in the calming seasons of life! We turn to God and His Word! So join me in the Bible!
