The Church is not a building it is the People
Matt 16:
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will have been loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he gave the disciples orders to tell no one that he was the Messiah.
This is the announcemnt of the Church not the beginning that does not happen till penticost
I have preached this before but today I want to deal with one particular part for the puropse of our study
I have preached this before but today I want to deal with one particular part for the puropse of our study
18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Remember, it is not peter that the Church is being built upon but Christ they were in cesseria philipi where there would have also been little stones in the stream
Peter means little stone therfore what Christ is saying is you are peter a little stone and I am Christ this massive rock and I will build my church upon myself
but what I want to focus on is this Christ has built his Church and the gates of hell will not overpower it!
What is Christ’s Church is it a building or is it the Peopele
Think about the early Church they did not meat in buildings
one thing this pandemic has done is it has forced us to be creative.
If we understand the church is not the Building we can still have comunion and connection with each other dispite the fact we are unable to meet in our physical location.
I will explain more on what our Church is doing on t;all this.
Question: Is God suprized by the pandemic?
God is not looking down right now and saying O no I did not see this comming what if this kills the church…
His word says the gates of hell will not overpower the church so no this is not going to kill the church.
some churches may suffer greatly from it however if members stop giving, or if they ignore one another in this time, again more on that later.
so through this pandemic
the brick has been taken away
the pews have been removed
the hymbooks and screens are gone
the pulpet is gone
what is left?
What is left is the core of the Church. Maybey God is is useing this to bring the church back to whre we focus on each other more than the externals. Our focus needs to be loving God and loving each other unfortently many churches have idiolized the building
The Church is not the Building! it is far past time that the Church in america becomes the Church as Christ intended .
13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
Remember we going through James as a church what does Jam,es say
When I encounter many trials I will count it Joy are you counting this Joy?
