How do we handle a crisis
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: We spend our years as a tale that is told.
ps 90.
12 So teach us to number our days, That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
ps 90.
A Song of degrees. 1 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, May Israel now say: 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: Yet they have not prevailed against me. 3 The plowers plowed upon my back: They made long their furrows. 4 The Lord is righteous: He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. 5 Let them all be confounded and turned back That hate Zion. 6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, Which withereth afore it groweth up: 7 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom. 8 Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: We bless you in the name of the Lord.
Trails are a part of life.....
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
When its all said and done what will be remembered?
When this is all over will people say the blessing of the Lord is upon you?
8 Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: We bless you in the name of the Lord.
Elaborate here ???
How ill you you remembered ?
vs 1 Many a time! I was afflicted
Many a Time ----- how did you react
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
How are we handling this stress
When we look back on this day what will be remembered?
The virus and the economic damage
The scared community
The reactions of the church?
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

vs 1 - No generation is exempt!
From my youth refers to Egypt punishing Israel ...
Every generation has to undergo trials ...
Egyptians, Cannan, Philistains, Assyrians, Greeks, Romans
vs 2 - no generation gets totally removed from trials ...
Ignatius said I am God’s wheat to be ground until I am pure....
The Right Perspective
Seeing life's trials as a blessing starts with having the right perspective. God’s perspective.
That perspective is this: God allows trials in your life to help you grow up…to mature you in Him. In other words, you will never grow in your walk with Christ without trials. God uses them to be your teacher and to make you into the person He wants you to be.
TRIALS TEST THE ENDURANCE OF YOUR FAITH
The way of testing if you are a good soldier is to go into the battle. The way to try whether a ship is well built is not merely to order the surveyor to examine her, but to send her to sea; a storm will be the best test of her strength. As unpleasant as the battle and the storm are, we discover this: it’s a great mercy to have your salvation proved to you under trial.
In running a marathon you tax you body rest and tax it again
Trails strengthen our faith ..
8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Pslam 1
The marks of our trials are left so we can remember who is in charge!
The marks helps us keep in perspective what is important
For David
Their sufferings were deep and prolonged. The Gentile taskmasters rode over them like a farmer plowing a field. The furrows on their back were long welts caused by the lash.[1]
Illustration of my surgery 2006 ...
They remind me of that date and God’s deliverance
The imagery of plowing furrows describes the extreme suffering that the enemies inflicted on Israel (v. 3). It is as if they had plowed … long furrows down their backs.
Deliverance from such suffering is attributed to the righteous Lord (v. 4). He had cut them loose. Perhaps the figure from verse 3 is continued here: God may have broken the plower’s harness so the plowing could not continue. Or the word cords in verse 4 may simply refer to subjugation (cf. 2:3).[1]
The marks david had reminded him that God did deliver.
The psalmist prayed that all his enemies who hated Zion, the city of the Lord, would be put to shame (v. 5).[1]
A testimony is only good if you are delivered!
Ladies and gentlemen we will get through these days.

God has allowed this to get everyones attention.

25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
This was a mark left the night he wrestled with God!

III. Trials Bring Depth
III. Trials Bring Depth
6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, Which withereth afore it groweth up: 7 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom. 8 Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: We bless you in the name of the Lord.
psalm 129.6-8
David is saying that his enemies may be like the grass on a hill top but over time it withereth. No depth ....
David says my enemies have their day but they withereth away....
His enemies were denied a happy outcome....
It was short lived

Trails force us to go deeper
A tree that has surface roots for water on the suffuse will fall when a storm comes .... no depth
A tree that is forced to have its roots go deep to find water can handle the storm
they will never say to Davids enemies
What will you be remembered as .....
Crisis is an accelerator.
Nobody knows that better than you right now. And the disruption has hit church leaders especially hard.
Crisis forces you to do things you previously thought about doing and put off.
It moves you to do things you’d never thought you’d do (like move to video teaching in some cases).
And it pushes you into massive change you never signed up for.
What’s making it more complicated is that as much as you wish things would just go back to normal, they won’t. At least not exactly as they were.
Why we can’t Meet.
When we will meet.

Most if not all of these changes were coming years down the road. It’s just now, they’ve arrived overnight.
