Scripture: Mark 4:35-41

Thrust: Look for God in the storm; He will bring you safely to shore.

1. Purpose in the Storm

The heartache and the thousand natural shocks ...

That flesh is heir to ...

The right thing to do: Stop, Look, Listen and Learn

Mark 4:34

We have never seen anything like this! (Mark 2:12)

... a great windstorm arose (Mark 4:37)

lailaps - storm, tidal waves, billows

anemou - wind, wind from four corners

megale - big, gigantic, colossal

Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. (Mt 8:24)

But He [Jesus] was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher do You not care that we are perishing? (Mark 4:38)

2. Protection Through The Storm

God specializes in impossibilities.

Gen 18:14; Jer 32:27; Isa 59:1; Luke 1:37

Jesus Spoke to the Storm

  • rebuke (eipen)
  • quiet (siopao = made dumb)
  • Be still (phimoo = muzzle)

… it was completely calm (Mt 8:26)

… the storm subsided, and all was calm (Lk 8:24)

… the wind died down and it was completely calm (Mk 4:39)

Jesus Spoke to the Disciples

  • Why are you SO afraid? Have you still no faith? (Mk 4:40)
  • Why are you afraid, O you of little faith? (Mt 8:26)
  • Where is your faith? (Lk 8:25)

Supernatural Protection

  • Boat stayed afloat
  • Disciples set foot on shore (Mk 5:1-2)

The Challenge

  • Storms are inevitable.
  • God has a purpose in the storm.
  • God will protect us in the storm.
