“Joy in the Midst of Affliction”

Those who know their God stand firm and act. – (ESV)

I. Joy in Affliction –

A. Does God have a positive purpose for trouble in our lives?

B. Joy in Christ

1. Not in circumstances. If our focus is on the waves, we will sink into them –

2. Rejoicing is a command –

II. Action – Liberty –

A. Not according to abundance but out of poverty

1. The need of our brothers and sisters in Christ –

2. The Philippians begged us to receive their offering –

III. Looking unto Jesus –

A. Give yourself to Christ –

1. Remember His mercies to you

2. You are not in control

B. Entrust yourself to Christ’s church –

1. The church is bigger than we often think –

2. Our tendency is to be concerned only about our own needs.

What about believers in Gaza cared for by the Palestinian Bible Society; Senegal; Poland; Kenya; and in our own community? Christ was rich living in His Father’s presence. He left His palace in heaven to live in need and humility to lift us out of our poverty into His abundance. Shall we worship our Father through His Son by His Spirit!
