Intro:

Church we are in unprecedented times. I believe in my heart that during this hour God is allowing his children to wake up. For the first time in a long time we have even the wealthy and the powerful facing fear. Sometimes things hit us to shake us and let us know that we are not near as powerful as we would suggest. We are now admitting our fragility, our weaknesses, our fears, and getting a real look at our faith. Here in the text we see Jesus is traveling from Judea back to Galilee. Jesus had just started a fire in Judea so much so that a high ranking Jew named Nicodemus came to him in the cover of darkness inquiring about his teachings on salvation. As Jesus embarked upon this three day journey. The text notates that Jesus’s ministry had hit the map with the Pharisees, because the verse 1 says they had noticed he was making more disciples than John. See church your haters will let you know when your anointing is real when they start to worry about what you are doing. Some of you all need to hear that. The reason some people are constantly in your business is because your gifting and anointing has caused them to be in fear of devaluation. When people in authority start to lose their grip instead of them revamping their position they will start hating on those who are ascending. Don’t make me preach virtually!! Then verse 4 sets the stage for our sermonic expression today in that it says He needed to go through Samaria. don’t miss this, but when the text says He needs to go through some of yall should have shouted, because you have been toiling with what you are dealing with but I need to remind you that you need to go through some people, places, or things in order to get where God is taking. Yes some of us need to go through this season of ambiguity in that restarants are closed, churches are closed, schools are closed businesses are closed, because of the pandemic. Church I say this on the regular, sometimes you have to go through in order to get to where God is taking you!

Point 1

One of the first things I noticed is that everyone is gone. The disciples are gone to get food. The woman has left her company and/or companion. Which denotes that their resources are dry. Jesus is sitting at a well with nothing to draw with, and a Woman is showing up at an odd time, because traditionally women would gather water in groups and come early in the morning or later in the evening when it was not so hot. Sometimes church God will allow your resources whether they are people, places or things to dry up in order for you to get to Christ! One can suggest that either embarassment or shame caused her to come at this hour, or one could surmise that she is simply their because she ran out. See sometimes people will drain you. Sometimes your job will drain you. Sometimes your family will drain you. Sometimes your marriage will drain you. Sometimes your church talk to me preachers will drain you. I want to serve notice today that when you get drained you are just right for a filling! When your so called friends drain you God is ready to do something new. Some of us would have stayed where we were but thank God we ran out. We ran out of drank, ran out of smoke, and ran out of relationships that were detrimental to us. There is a blessing sometimes in running out, because when you run out you just may run into Jesus! Somebody should have shouted at home to know that the reason your running dry is not as near as important as where it’s going to drive you! In other words God is about to take barren places and turn them into a place of overflow in your life!

Point 2

Jesus being weary from His journey is sitting at the well. Now then the text says a woman comes to the well and Jesus asks her a question “Give me a drink”. The question was a simple one, and only required a simple answer but sometimes we allow external things to get in the way of eternal blessings. Watch this now. Jesus says, “Give me a drink”. Her response had nothing to do with his question, but had everything to do with her mental position. She responds with “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Her response illuminated the fact she was still stuck on a 400+ year old fight! Which means she in her mindset is more focused on the traditional history than she is on the Messiah. Whew church sometimes God will ask us a simple question or give us a simple task and we think we need to inform God of our historical position. God knows your history. God does not need to know about your tradition and history. God grace is the only reason you really have history. Which brings me to my first point don’t allow your past to cause you to miss present blessing!

Point 3

After she finishes with her history lesson Jesus says something spiritual to her. “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” Her response once again lets us know where she is mentally and spiritually at this point. Now we must not ignore the context. Samaritans and Jews had no association at all. Jesus and his disciples being in a hurry and needed to get out of town quick, because he assumed some new haters in the Pharisees. This event led to this obscure meeting that normally would not happen at all. So he says you have no idea who you are talking to. If you but asked I would have given you living water. Just like us she missed it! Her response was how are you going to get water with proper tools and the well is real deep. I know because I come here all the time. Then she answers with her history This is Jacob’s well are you greater than he? Meaning I deserve to be here, because my history says I deserve water from this place not you Jews. Her answer was of the flesh and again her history, because she has yet to figure out who she is really talking to. Here is the revelation church. Many of us here the spirit speak to us and the first thing we do is tell God what we don’t have and how we are qualified or disqualified because of our history. The point you are missing, don’t miss your shout, is that when you run into Jesus he can rewrite your history and supernaturally give you what you need to accomplish what he has set out for you! In other words don’t worry about what you don’t have focus on who your are with! Somebody tell someone in your house or online that God is about to change your history and renew your resources!

Close!

13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again. When you depend on your resources you will run out. When you depend on your intellect you will run out. When you depend on your relationships they will run dry. When you depend on your skills they will fade. When you depend on your family they will let you down. You will find yourself in an embarrassing situation and place, but I want you to know that when you finally realize that it’s not about your connections, your politics, your tradition, or your resources it’s about the one who is waiting at the well. Jesus is at the well waiting us to stop by so he can put something in our cups that the liquor store can’t that GNC can’t, That healthfood stores cannot. because he says “but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” When you have the Holy Spirit deep down like Jacob’s well it can water your dry places. The Holy Spirit will bring life to dead places. The equafor of everlasting life will never run dry. But we have to run dry sometimes in order for us to receive His water.
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
