What is tonight going to look like?

30 minutes in small groups

We will resume back together to close in a word of prayer.
Provide a space to hang out - extended small groups
We have spent three weeks in Habakkuk so far
So we are reviewing for these reasons
1) we missed last week - review is good
2) New means of communication - let’s not add new content
3) Habakkuk is a timely message - especially with all that is going on
I titled tonights session Uncertainty, Sovereignty, and Faith
I chose these three words as a means of summarizing the lats three sermons that we heard as we have gone through Habakkuk.
First word - Uncertainty

Habakkuk lived in a time of uncertainty.

Habakkuk 1:2 ESV
2 O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you “Violence!” and you will not save?
Habakkuk 1:4 ESV
4 So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted.
Habakkuk 2:4 ESV
4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith.

God, by his sovereignty, uses surprising means to accomplish his saving purpose.

Habakkuk 1:5 ESV
5 “Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.
Habakkuk 1:5–6 ESV
5 “Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told. 6 For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, who march through the breadth of the earth, to seize dwellings not their own.
God is the one behind all that is happening in Habakkuk’s day

This is the shocking end to Genesis
Genesis 50:20 ESV
20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
This is the shocking news of the gospel
through the death of Jesus… God would save those have have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and repent of their sins

The righteous live by faith in God’s word.

The righteous live by faith according to God’s word.

What things cause you to feel uncertain about life right now?
How might God be using this time to accomplish his saving purpose purpose?
What ways do we see God acomplishing his purpose in the world that might seem strange to us?
What promises of God are you clinging to in faith during this time of uncertainty?
