Introduction

We began talking about the glorious salvation that is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord.
justification
regeneration
sanctification
glorification
We talked about Justification
It is a legal declaration
Two things in this declaration, God forgives us our sin and declares us righteous in Christ
We talked about the grounds of our justification, the ground of our justification is the redeeming work of Christ
Justification is entirely based on grace
Justification is through faith
The message of the Gospel is the message that is proclaimed and is to be received by faith leading to justification
What I want to talk about this evening is that this message of salvation is to be freely offered to all.

The free offer of the gospel

Read article 6
Isaiah 55:1 ESV
“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Revelation 22:17 ESV
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
We are to liberally share the gospel message brothers and sisters, this gospel message is for everyone
It is not just for people that are like us
This general call of the gospel is to be proclaimed for all to hear

The demand of the gospel

Notice the gospel does not come to us as a suggestion but it comes to us as a command
The gospel is the story of what Jesus has done for sinners and a call to repent and believe the gospel
Mark 1:15 ESV
and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Romans 1:15–17 ESV
So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Notice in this text Paul talks about the obedience of faith. Faith in Jesus is obedience to the call of the gospel or the demand of the gospel.
Romans 16:26 ESV
but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—

What prevents the salvation of the sinner

We need to make it clear, it is not that the offer of the gospel is genuine or that Christ is not able to save the greatest sinner on earth, the only thing that prevents the greatest sinner on earth from being saved is his own rejection of the gospel
Proverbs 1:24–27 ESV
Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you, when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.
John 3:16–20 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
John 5:39–40 ESV
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.
Listen to what Jesus says to the religious leaders
John 5:39–40 ESV
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

Refusing to believe the gospel message only aggravates ones condemnation

Matthew 11:20–24 ESV
Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”
What is the upshot from all of this
Brothers and sisters let us be faithful to share the gospel, this is the message of salvation, without the gospel there is only condemnation, there is only death
Let us plead with sinners to obey the gospel
Let us pray that God will open their hearts to hear and to receive the gospel.
Brothers and sisters, the Lord has us here in this time to be faithful to share the hope that we have in Christ, let us be faithful.
