One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
Its important to not that in the beginning of ACT peter and John are together a lot.
this may be because of the idea of two witnesses. They were doing a lot of ministry.
Jesus also sent the disciples out in pairs.
They went up to the temple… this is not a bid deal per-say, but it was common to say you went up to the temple.. even though some of the entrances caused you to descend… Its kind of like Oxford… you always go up to Oxford.
The time of the apostles’ visit was the “ninth” hour, three in the afternoon, i.e., the hour of prayer. It was also the time of the evening Tamid, one of the two sacrifices held daily in the temple.3 These had become prescribed times of prayer, and people would come to the temple at the sacrifice times to observe the ceremony and pray. The largest crowds would thus have been found at the times of sacrifice
Talk about the man being born crippled.. how this makes the miracale even more significant.
talk about that most people who have thought that either he or his families sin would have caused this.
The Jewish Rabbis taught that there were 3 pillar to the Jewish faith.. the Torah, worship and giving to the poor.
set the stage for the mans begging… He would not have really looked at them.... nor would they look at him.
So when Peter told him to look at them… he probably got excited that he was going to get something big...
Peter calls upon the Name of Jesus and His power… it has nothing to do with Peter...
remember in acts 2 the power of the Holy Spirit came from God!!!!!
It is God’s choice to give power and to take it away...
Peter reaching out his hand reminds me of Jesus reaching out his hand to peter when he was drowning..
Think about this mans joy!!!
Verse 11:
They are now in Solomon’s Colonnade which is where Jesus challenges the pharisees a lot… especially in
These two sermons (the one Peter gave in , and this one) have a lot in common. But their themes are different.
in acts 2 Peters is using scripture to prove that Jesus is the Messiah
in this sermon he is show the people their sin, and using scripture to bring about conviction with the need for repentance.
what prophecy is Peter talking about in verse 17?
Talk about sin coming into the world through Adam, but redemption through Jesus
