Hope for Redemption (.13-35)
Hope for Redemption (.13-35)
Are you having conversations about what is happening around you? Or have you ever had a conversation with someone who nothing about what was going on?
Today we will be looking at two men who thought they were in this very situation.
(Read )
These two men who were walking on the road to Emmaus were amongst the disciples and women who received the message that Jesus had risen from the dead. It was then that Jesus appeared to them, but they did not know it was Him and they were astonished that this stranger did not know all that had been happening in Jerusalem. So they told Him.
The NET Bible Chapter 24
“The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene,” they replied, “a man who, with his powerful deeds and words, proved to be a prophet before God and all the people; 24:20 and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 24:21 But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Not only this, but it is now the third day since these things happened.
These two men were not convinced He was the Messiah. Listen to what they say:
He was a man
Powerful in words and deeds
Proved to be a prophet
We had hoped He was the one who was going to redeem Israel
But now it’s the 3rd day since all these things happened
Some did not see Him
Jesus then called them foolish and explained to them all that had to happen and how the prophets had written about the Messiah in the Scriptures.
The Messiah has been written about and witnessed, yet people are still slow of heart to believe in the truth of who He is and what He came to do for all people.
Verse 24.21 - The two men said, “But we had hoped that He was the one was going to redeem Israel.” He did redeem Israel by His blood and resurrection. Our redeemer lives. The two men needed proof, a sign before they would believe. Eventually Jesus was revealed to them and they ran back to Jerusalem to tell the others what they saw. Verse 34 - “The Lord has really risen, and has appeared to Simon also.”
All of Israel had been anticipating the redemption of Israel through the Messiah. Most missed the truth of who He was and when He rose from the dead He showed them exactly who He was, the Messiah who takes away the sins of the world. He is your redemption, He is your savior, and He will come again for one final redemption of all whom have placed their faith in Him.
