25 As ons deur die Gees lewe, laat ons ook deur die Gees wandel.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
In die gedeelte gaan Paulus uit van die veronderstelling dat jy ‘n Gees vervulde mens sal wees wat onder die Heerskappy van Jesus Christus staan. Dit is dus die Heilige Gees wat ons laat leef, die werklike lewe laat ervaar.

1. As ons lewe, deur die Gees. ‘n Teenswoordige aktiewe indikatief. Dit is dus ‘n handeling wat God nou besig is om in ons te werk..
Sense: to live (supernaturally) – to be or become alive in a transcendent manner; especially as characteristic of resurrected life, or life without sin or with sin subjugated.
om te lewe (bonatuurlik) – om op 'n transendent wyse lewendig te wees of lewend te word; veral as Kenmerkend van opgestane lewe, of lewe sonder sonde of met sonde onderwerp
Hier word ‘n feit gestel wat spreek van ‘n voltooide ervaring of belewenis.
Omdat ons lewe deur die Gees. Dit op sigself spreek van ‘n lewe wat bo-menslik of Bo-natuurlik gedryf word.
Ons is afhanklik van die Krag van die Heilige Gees. Die Gees bring tot ons beskikking al die onbeskryflike, onbeperkte bronne van God. Van ons word dus verwag om op die hoogste vlak van lewe te leef wat die gees gee.
“The word Spirit is dative of reference. The word if is the conditional particle of a fulfilled condition. That is, “in view of the fact” or “seeing that” we live with reference to the Spirit.
The Galatians were living with reference to the Spirit in the sense that the new divine life resident in their beings, was supplied by the Spirit. Now, Paul says, “in view of the fact that you Galatians have a new life principle operating in your beings, then walk by the Spirit.”
The word walk is from stoicheō (στοιχεω) which means “to walk in a straight line, to conduct one’s self (rightly).”[1]

The verb translated “keep in step with” is a military term meaning to “be drawn up in line,” to “stand in a row.”109[2]
Wanneer die woordjie “as” gebruik word dui dit ‘n opeenvolgende gebeure wat deur die skrywer as waarheid aanvaar word. Die eerste stelling is moet eers voltooi wees voordat die tweede stelling afgehandel kan word. Daarom wil Paulus hê dat ons moet verstaan dat Daar eers ‘n werk van God moet gebeur in ons lewens wat bonatuurlik is.

Here we have the free will of the Christian and his responsibility to live the highest type of Christian life, and the grace of God which will make that possible.
The responsibility of the saint is
· to desire to live a Christlike life,
· to depend upon the Holy Spirit for the power to live that life,
· and to step out on faith and live that life.
This fulfilled, will bring all the infinite resources of grace to the aid of the saint, and put in operation all the activities of the Spirit in his behalf.[3]

Wat die skrywer ons op wys is dat dit ‘n nuwe morele wyse van lewe is, wat nie deur ons self bepaal word nie maar deur God in ons gewerk word.
Dit was ook nie altyd so nie.
Let op wat Paulus hieroor sê; Romeine 8:13 (Die Lewende Bybel) As julle volgens julle eie begeertes lewe, is julle op pad na die dood toe. Maar as julle die Gees in julle laat werk om die sondige dinge dood te maak, sal julle lewe.
Henry, M., in sy kommentaar Matthew Henry’s commentary on the whole Bible: complete and unabridged in one volume stel dit so;
· “If we profess to have received the Spirit of Christ,
· or that we are renewed in the Spirit of Christ,
· or that we are renewed in the spirit of our minds,
· and endued with a principle of spiritual life,
· let us make it appear by the proper fruits of the Spirit in our lives.”[4]
Laat ons ook deur die Gees wandel. Dit is ‘n militêre term wat Paulus gebruik. Kom in pas.
It suggests, therefore, the basic idea of discipleship: conformity to Christ under the leadership of the Spirit[5]
Dit veronderstel ‘n goed geordende, goed gereguleerde gedragspatroon van lewe.
Living by the Spirit is the root; walking by the Spirit is the fruit, and that fruit is nothing less than the practical reproduction of the character (and therefore the conduct) of Christ in the lives of his people[6]
Hier het jy ‘n pragtige voorbeeld van die indikatief en imperatief in taalgebruik. God se werk in jou lewe is besig om te gebeur, Sy Gees lewe binne in jou. Maar jy moet in pas kom met die gees en saam met die gees daagliks beweeg. Paulus veronderstel dat dit altyd so is nie en dat ons somtyds uit pas met die Gees is.
Walking in the Spirit simply means doing what the Lord tells you to do moment by moment—whether it’s making a phone call to someone in need of encouragement, getting away for five minutes to pray, or chopping wood for someone in need. It is also the most impacting, exciting, unpredictable life there is.[7]
Gebed. Here, onse God. Omdat ons U kinders is, weet ons dat U Gees binne in ons woon en werk. Ons besef egter dat ons lewens nie altyd in pas is met wat U van ons verlang nie. Help ons vandag, en elke ander dag, om weer in pas te kom met Gees. Te lewe en te doen soos u dit self sou doen. Maar net volgelinge te wees en in U voetspore te stap. Amen
