The Notorious Z.A.C

Luke 19:1–10 NLT
1 Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. 2 There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. 3 He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. 5 When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” 6 Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. 7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. 8 Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” 9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Seek & Save Those Who Are Lost!!!
Introduction:
Like tend to favor the bad guy, the black sheep, the one most likely not to be saved…the Indian never the cowboy.
The ruff neck, the thug, the thot, the side chick, the pole dancer, your worse nightmare…
Expound
Luke 3:12 NLT
12 Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and asked, “Teacher, what should we do?”
Luke 7:29 NLT
29 When they heard this, all the people—even the tax collectors—agreed that God’s way was right, for they had been baptized by John.
Luke 15:1 NLT
1 Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach.
Luke 18:10 NLT
10 “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector.
Luke 18:10–14 TPT
10 “Once there were two men who went into the temple to pray. One was a proud religious leader, the other a despised tax collector. 11 The religious leader stood apart from the others and prayed, ‘How I thank you, O God, that I’m not wicked like everyone else. They’re cheaters, swindlers, and crooks—like that tax collector over there. God, you know that I never cheat or commit adultery; I fast from food twice a week and I give you a tenth of all I make.’ 13 “The tax collector stood off alone in the corner, away from the Holy Place, and covered his face in his hands, feeling that he was unworthy to even look up to God. Beating his breast, he sobbed with brokenness and tears saying, ‘God, please, in your mercy and because of the blood sacrifice, forgive me, for I am nothing but the most miserable of all sinners!’ 14 “Which one of them left for home that day made right with God? It was the humble tax collector and not the religious leader! For everyone who praises himself will one day be humiliated before all, and everyone who humbles himself will one day be lifted up and honored before all.”
Luke 18:10–15 NLT
10 “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! 12 I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ 13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ 14 I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” 15 One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him.
My Thoughts:
I think We have gotten distracted with great preaching, great praising, great worship even great teaching & having great buildings.. But we lack being great soul winning members of the body of Christ.
We have titles and position’s but no power & no effectiveness in our communities. But God is changing all that with a reset...
Luke 19:3 NLT
3 He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd.
A Notorious Sinner sought Jesus out!!
He was to short to see over the crowd
(Have you ever been close but felt far from him)
Notorious couldn’t see Jesus because of the Crowd…
What crowds your vision
What crowds your ability to reach Jesus?
Point 2 Where Do you Run?
Luke 19:4 NLT
4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.
Notorious ran ahead & climbed a sycamore-fig tree.

The soft, porous wood was used in construction of Egyptian tombs and coffins.

Notorious, a rich man humbled himself and climb up a tree thats used for dead things.. ( it points to the cross)
Notorious had a gift as the Chief Publican to run ahead of things. (he could forecast)
(i am going to ask you again.. where Do You run to)
He ran away from the crowd
He went Up!!!
Point #3 Position Yourself
Luke 19:5 NLT
5 When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
Luke 19:5 NLT
5 When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
:
Notorious positioned himself to be where Jesus was going and not where Jesus has been.
Exodus 13:21 NLT
21 The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night.
Notorious
Jesus called him by his government name.. and called him out of the dead thing.. (POSITION YOURSELF TO MOVE)
Jesus tells him too quickly to climb down. Because he must be a guest in his house today.
Notorious Z.A.C climbed down & took Jesus to his house in great excitement and Joy.
Luke 19:7 NLT
7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled.
Lk19:
Scripture states the people grumbled. Next verse Meanwhile

Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”

They grumbling and Z.A.C is sowing....(POSITION YOURSELF TO PROSPER)
Psalm 116:12–17 KJV 1900
12 What shall I render unto the Lord For all his benefits toward me? 13 I will take the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the Lord. 14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord Now in the presence of all his people. 15 Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of his saints. 16 O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: Thou hast loosed my bonds. 17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the Lord.
em back four times as much!”
Psalm 116
Z.A.C didn’t need anyone to tell him he was a sinner, He knew that.. He just needed to Position Himself by having Jesus in his house as his guest of honor.
He said I will give half my wealth to the poor and pay back everyone I cheated 4 times as much.
See thats what true repentance is.. A changed mind & a changed heart.
Luke 19:9 TPT
9 Jesus said to him, “This shows that today life has come to you and your household, for you are a true son of Abraham. The Son of Man has come to seek out and to give life to those who are lost.”
Lk 19
New Life has come your household... (SALVATION)
True-Sonship
Jesus has come to seek and save those who are lost
What will Jesus find when he comes to your heart I mean your house?
Will he grant Salvation to your home?
Will you be embraced as a son?
In 9 verses of Luke.... Way before he rides in on a donkey he sets free the Notorious Chief Publican of the city.
To prove to everyone it’s not where you from it’s where you at!!!
