Blessed Beyond Circumstances

Psalm 1:1 KJV 1900
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
In our text tonight we look at how we can have contentment and be blessed in spite of our surroundings.
Pray for help to learn from the trial and to not get discouraged.
1 Peter 4:12–13 KJV 1900
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
What will you and I be know for?

The psalm describes the blessed man who leads an untarnished and prosperous life in accord with the Word of the Lord, and contrasts him with the ungodly who shall perish.

Two ways ----
Is a fitting introduction for the Psalter in that it summarizes the two ways open to mankind, the way of the righteous and the way of the wicked.
It may be classified as a wisdom psalm because of its emphasis on these two ways of life, the use of the similes, the announcement of blessing, and the centrality of the Law for fulfillment in life. The motifs in this psalm recur again and again throughout the collection.

A. The blessed man (1:1–3)

The psalm describes the blessed man who leads an untarnished and prosperous life in accord with the Word of the Lord, and contrasts him with the ungodly who shall perish
So we have the blessed man is contrasted with the ungodly man

Blessed Beyond Circumstances means We

I. Avoid the Negative

Psalm 1:1 KJV 1900
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Walketh not in the
I am not talking about living in abubble or delusional
Stay of FB - conspiracy, the dommsday crowd the balming crowd .
This will not help you or I while we are in lockdown
With three trilogies of expressions the psalmist described the life of the blessed man: he does not walk … stand or sit in the counsel … way or seat of the wicked (ungodly), sinners, or mockers (scorners).
With each parallel unit the expression becomes more intense. This signifies a progression from a casual influence of ungodly people to collusion with them in their scorn against the righteous.
One who is not characterized by this evil influence is “blessed,” that is, he is right with God and enjoys the spiritual peace and joy that results from that relationship.[1].
We have a progression of negativity
Walk - observe
stand - stop and take it in
sit - partake
The blessed man will evaluate his circumstances and avoid the negative and ungodly
James 1:13–15 KJV 1900
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
During this time we would stay away from negative and sinful attitudes ...
1 Corinthians 15:33 KJV 1900
33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
Matthew 12:36–37 KJV 1900
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Hebrews 4:12 KJV 1900
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
We all have occasions that require dealing with negative people. There are two categories of negative people: those who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior and those who do not. These two types of negative people require different approaches. The Bible offers insight and wisdom on how to handle both kinds.
First, though, what do we mean by “negative people”? Negative people tend to focus on others’ faults (or their own faults). They may regularly point out shortcomings with their comments, attitudes, and frowns. Negative people will approach situations from a pessimistic viewpoint, assuming the worst in any given situation. Sometimes negative people disguise their negativity by using humor or sarcasm, but it still ultimately results in someone being or feeling put down. To be blessed beyond circumstances is to stay away from negative people
Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution.
People that influence build each other up.They motivate inspire and push each other.Negative people just hate, blame and complain.
Negative people
James 1:13–14 KJV 1900
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
During this time lets avoid as much as possible negative people ....

Blessed Beyond Circumstances Means

II.Delight in the Truth

Psalm 1:2–3 KJV 1900
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
A godly person is influenced not by unrighteous people but by his meditation on the Word of God.
Such meditation necessarily involves study and retention. This is possible only if he has a desire to do so, here referred to as a delight.
The psalmists found direction, not drudgery, from the Law of God.
1:3. For all who take their delight in living by God’s Word, there is prosperity.
Under the image of a fruitful tree, the psalmist declared that whatever the righteous do will prosper (cf. 92:12–14). Two qualifications need to be noted.
First, the fruit, that is, the prosperity, is produced in its season and not necessarily immediately after planting.
Second, what the godly person does will be controlled by the Law of God (1:2).
So if a person meditates on God’s Word, his actions will be godly, and his God-controlled activities will prosper, that is, come to their divinely directed fulfillment.
A Blessed person delight what is true
God’s word
Knowing the sovereignty God ..
Accepting circumstances
Seeing trials as times of growth

Romans 8:28 KJV 1900
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Matthew 10:29–31 KJV 1900
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
We are Blessed because we know who is in charge and
he has a plan....
1:4. In strong contrast with a blessed person (v. 1) is an ungodly person. The Hebrew word rāšā‘ is often translated wicked (cf. vv. 1, 5–6) but that may connote gross evil. People described by rāšā‘ are not in covenant relationship with God; they live according to their passions. They are not godly. They may do kind and charitable deeds, but God’s evaluation of them is that they are without eternal merit.
The psalmist compared them to chaff, the worthless husks of the grain blown away by the wind in the process of winnowing. Such is the contrast with the fruitful (cf. v. 3), valuable, righteous person.[1]

Blessed Beyond Circumstances means you

III. Realize the Ramifications

Psalm 1:4–6 KJV 1900
4 The ungodly are not so: But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Psalm 1.
Finally be blessed beyond circumstances means you understand the alternative...
What is the other side to this coin?
This that are evil - did not last
They will not stand with the righteous
They will parish
For our context this means - negative people will destroy each other ....
The alternative will destroy us
The alternative will cause us to loose out testimony
The alternative will cause us to loose focus
Before you sin --- look at the cost ......
Summary
God has a plan and we can glorify Him during this time by
Focusing on God’s promises and His unspoken will for our lives.
