a) Why is an accurate usage of “miracle” important? How can hoping for a
miracle be hoping for the wrong things?
Pastor Nathan Sehi
Which is better? We often plea for miracles, but miracles are quite
rare. If we are praying for miracles, we might think God doesn't care for
us, but that would be far from the Truth. Instead our Bibles teach us that
God is not working by Miracles alone, but also through every day,
common providence. Phil 4:19-20 promises us that God is providentially
ruling in the lives of his believers.
Which is Better? Miracles or Providence.
b) Why is providence just as amazing and powerful as a miracle? Why is it
better to pray for providence then to pray for a miracle?
What is a miracle?
- Definition: A miracle is a special act of God that interrupts the natural
course of events. (Baker Apologetics)
- Miracles are rare events.
- Danger of misusing the Word: How do we know that a miracle is the work
of God, or mere coincidence or chance?
3) How does providence reflect the love of Christ and the Father in our
lives?
What is providence?
- Definition: Providence is basically God’s provision for the needs of men
on time. (BEB)
- Just as Amazing as miracle. (Ruth 2:3, Jonah 1:4, Rom 8:28)
- Common, Every day, and Promised. (Phil 4:19-20)
APPLICATION:
- Don’t hope for a miracle – Trust in God’s providence.
- Be Confident that God is good, powerful, and loving.
4) What issues of life do you need to trust God to providentially care for
you?
