Well, I have to say that in truth. I'm warning, you know, the the state of things that I'm not sure if you heard the doctor about the Toronto stop doctor said that we can expect to be in this type of situation for the next 3 months. And so, you know, that's not a good thing and it's hard on people how many know these are hard times Church experts are telling us that this is going to have a dramatic effect on the church. If you know anything that you do for 21 days becomes an ingrained habit And so, you know people are getting into the habit of not being in church. And so the expectation is that you know, people are just going to kind of drop their commitment level and Cat to get used to justify having things on their own terms in and so, you know, there are many that are telling us that we are headed for the great apostasy, you know, we read about that in Revelation the church if at laodicea that Jesus had to say to them because you're lukewarm. I'm going to vomit you out of my mouth and what a tragic thing especially is a pastor to think that people you love cared for try to help would be vomited out of the Lord's mouth. So these are these are dark times. These are difficult times and you know, I'm just my heart's grieving and so I thought I would wear black.

April Fools it is April Fool's Day. Anda You know, there was a man who was bewildered about what God's will for his life was and he confused. What direction do I need to go in but sincerely wanting to do the will of God and so what he did was he said I'm just going to I'm just going to look to the word of God. He grabbed his Bible and he just thumb through it stopped on a page and put his finger. And on the verse that he put his finger it said Judas went and hung himself. They said no that can't be right. There's something wrong with that. Let me do that again until he goes through thumbing through his Bible and again puts his finger in. Go and do likewise it said. Well, let me just say that if I really had that feeling that the church's best days were behind I might as well follow judas's example and go do likewise, but that's not my opinion. And in my heart, I believe that this is all part of God's Sovereign plan and know where do we perhaps see that reality more true than we do in the passage of scripture that we're going to look at and that is the Book of Genesis chapter 50. So I want to invite you to turn in your Bible with me and going to read the end of the beginning. The end of Genesis the book of beginnings and so let's consider that too as we read verse 15 when Joseph brothers so that their father was dead. They said perhaps Joseph will hate us and me actually repay is for all the evil which we did to him. So they sent Messengers to Joseph saying before your father died. He commanded saying the shoe shall say to Joseph I beg you please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin, but they did Evil to you now, please forgive the trespass of the Servants of the god of your father and Joseph wet when they spoke to him. Dennis Brothers also went and fell down before his face and they said behold. We are your servants Joseph said to them do not be afraid for I am in the place of God, but as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring it about as it is this day to save many people alive. Now, therefore do not be afraid I will provide for you and your little ones and he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. So Joseph dwelled in Egypt, he and his father's household and Joseph lived 110 years Joseph sahi Freedom's children to the 3rd Generation the children the matcher the son of Manasseh. We're also brought up on Joseph sneeze and Joseph said to his brother and I am dying, but God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land to the land of which you spoke to Abraham Isaac and Jacob.

Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel saying God will surely visit you and you shall carry up my bones from here. So Joseph died being 110 year old 10 years old and then bumped him and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

I want to begin by thinking with you where we start from. really matters

perhaps you've heard the joke. Now. This is a night for corny jokes, but the old joke it says that a stranger from the city was out in the country driving around and he got disoriented and lost and so he stopped and asked one of the locals. He said listen, I need to get back to the highway. How do I get there from here? And the villagers thought for many said, well, you know, what you need to do is you need to go through town and I just passed the bridge and the bridge is up. And he said well, you know what rather turn this way and go back past. There will be about three Farms you need to pass and then you need to turn right and it wait. No. He thought for a minute. He said, you know, you can't get there from here. So you can tickle your armpits to laugh, but you know many of those jokes are not really joke. They just jokes they just have a bit of humor that illustrate some truth. And that's kind of how the old jokes used to work at and insulted in this story. The reality is that there's sometimes in life where you can't get to where you want to go where you need to go. Perhaps we're even God is calling you to go from where you presently are. And so we have before us the story of Joseph and the Joseph is a man of vision. He is a dreamer. He has great aspirations. He is a man who is called by God and he understands that he feels that deeply and he has some dreams that now Joseph had 11 Brothers at and his mother and his father and soul living with them. And so he tells his brother's this dream. He said, you know, I dreamed we were out and we were all Gathering sheaves and then my sheaves stood up and your sheaves all bow down to them. And his brothers heard that it's about the stupid dream. You probably had too much pizza before you went to bed. And then he comes back a dream and the dream was the Sun and the Moon and 11 Stars about down before me. And they know exactly what that meant the Sun. Josef's father his mother and the 11 brothers would all bow down to him. Well that didn't sit right with them. And then he also was the favorite. He's the one who got the coat of many colors and the end so they in their hearts despised him and hated him and one day his father sent him out to check on his brothers and his he went out they were all there alone and they decided some of them we're going to kill him. Let's kill him and Judah prevails and says, no that's not wise in so what we need to do is if we'll just we'll put them in the pit and there was some ishmaelites that were having to pass by and they say you better than that let's just sell them into slavery. And so they did that and gain some money and Joseph then was carried away into Egypt sold as a slave to a man by the name of potiphar an army officer. And he happens to have a nice home and and property and Ranch various things of farm. And and so we need someone to take care of his business. Joseph's very smart. And so he begins to allow Joseph that your trade into and to take hold of things and then before long Joseph is put in charge of everything. And you know the story that as he's there and potiphar is out Spotify as wife looked at him less Stingley longingly and desires him day after day, but Joseph is a man of integrity resistor and then one day she just grabs for him and he runs away but his coat comes off and he and he flees away and then she accuses him. He tried to rape me.

Potiphar is incensed. So I think he probably had some ideas about where his wife's heart was really but nevertheless to keep peace in the home. He said he puts Joseph in prison. And while Joseph's in prison, we know that you know that same gifting that was in his life materializes and before long. He's the head prisoner. He's the one who's in charge. And again, he's just such a great administrator and and so before long we know that pharaohs Butler and his Baker are put into jail. One of them is going to die Joseph interprets their dreams and and he says listen one of them dies and one of them goes back to Fairway says give a good word to Faro for me.

But it doesn't happen. And so he's left there but Wednesday Ferrell has a dream.

And he says I need someone to interpret this dream. And it just so happens that the butler remembers. He said, you know what there was a man in prison. His name is Joseph. He interpreted our dreams. And so Farrell sent for him and we know how that he came interpreted Pharaoh's dreams and told him you need to have someone wise that you put over to administrate the Affairs of the Kingdom so that you can prepare for the famine that is to come and Pharaoh says well who is as capable? Who is is that Discerning as you attend in one day? He is an elevated the second in command of all of Egypt. But I want you to know that he couldn't get from canaanland to second-in-command in Egypt unless he went through. slavery being in prison being forgotten about rejected by his brothers He had to get to that place and I want you to know that in life before we can get to where we need to go. We have to get to someplace different than where we are.

You know, there are waves of Revival that swept through the church world. That's the history of Revival. It's not one Continuous Flow that we can look back and we can see in history that there were visitation and moves of God. These were the Peaks. These were the Great Waves of God working and moving. But in between those waves there were some valleys there was some low tide times that the church went through sometimes of discouragement sometimes of disheartening sometimes of of of complacency and various things that but it was all part of God's plan to bring some people to the place where he could begin to move in their life. He could promote them in advance them. It was almost like there was a vacuum. Nothing was happening people's hearts were moved. They desire that they wanted it. You know, if God just always moved in Revival we would just expect it. We wouldn't appreciate it. And so part of what he does is allowing us to go through some Valley some difficult times in our lives thinking about to Pastor Chuck Smith just having finished his autobiography and him telling us how he actually started in Prescott his first church pastor that eventually became Pastor Mitchell's and Revival took place there, but then he went there from there to Tucson was there I had a good experience difficult times not a lot of finances, but he got through and learn some things and was transferred and he went to a church in, California. And destroyed it his own words. He failed.

And it was from that place of failure. Did God prepared him for one of the great moves of God the Jesus people movement. There was a church. That was just hungry. They wanted to see something happen. They wanted to be behind a pastor. They weren't going to fight and be contentious us and he moved in there and they were ready for what God wanted to do. They had to go through some things. Before they could get to the place where they could get to where God was taking them. And perhaps you are going through some things and maybe even now in the world the church is going through some things. But I want you to know that you can get to where you need to go. You can start. From where you're at right now we can start now. Hungry after got realizing how much we appreciate the church realizing how much we appreciate being able to come and pray with the Brethren how much we appreciate that being able to be encouraged by the saints that look eye-to-eye and rub shoulders with people and have Fellowship.

Where we can realize how precious it is to see someone answer an altar calls you commit their lives to Christ to be parts. of that

want to speak with you secondly about the importance of keeping your head in the game. Now I noticed this year following basketball that there were times when there were some very unexpected scores. I mean like the Lakers getting blown out and you would think how in the world could the Lakers, you know with all of the talent that they have LeBron James perhaps one of the best basketball players that is ever lived, you know it and there they are and how in the world did that happen? Well, what happens to the human tendency is when we get down. And you know, it's like a long ways to get it even even. That we very easy Just Surrender. We just give in we just give up.

Not seeing what we wanted tonight. So we'll just throw in the towel just Coast with kickback I believe there a lot of disciples that do that. Listen to road to where God wants to take you is never going to involve the way you think it's going to happen.

So we think he's going to take us from here to point a dew point Zed or Zee if you're an American We'll just go b c d e f we got it all lined up. But God takes us to em back to d2g back to the O and we go back and forth. Sometimes it's all part of his plan to get us from .82. Where we're going to finish. And cross the line of his purpose for our life.

SOS Joseph is going through that there many points along the road that he could have just said forget it. I'm down. Questioned God's vision and dream that had put in his heart.

No, he could have been so upset with his brothers that would violate him like that. You know people will do that.

It's in human nature. With the ishmaelites who would just auction him off.

What a humbling experience with Potiphar's wife here. He was faithful in Men of Integrity serving to the best of his ability pouring everything into helping someone else be blessed and then have him turning put them in prison.

And then be able to interpret these two men's dreams. And then they just forget about him.

He could have been upset. He could have just had the idea of you know, I've done is this how it's always going to be? I do my best and what do I get for it?

Perhaps you really could have been upset with God. mad at God God why did you tempt me? Why are you making a fool of me? Are you mocking me?

Well, it is easy to get down. G Campbell Morgan want to read a quote of his Now he is writing from World War II very difficult times. It just come out of the depression. He said this and in and remember, he's from London. He's from where and it's it's tough sledding. He said this I have no sympathy with people who tell us today. But these are the darkest days the world has ever seen the days in which we live our appalling, but they do not compare with conditions in the world when Jesus came into it.

Historians Talk of the Pax Romana the Roman peace and make much of the fact that there was peace everywhere the Roman peace. Do not forget that the Roman peace was the result of the fact that the world had been bludgeoned brutally into submission to one Central Power. now for those first century Christians life was not easy. Hebrews says that many of them had their goods taken away from them lost their jobs were persecuted were challenged. Do you know that the days of the Roman Empire that perhaps 40% of people in Rome anyway were slaves

and some of them actually wore colors like you might have a dog collar. They've actually found some of those collars and on one of it. It said I am Elsa last slave a practice who is an official in the department of the grain Supply. I have escaped from my post detain me for I have run away take me back to the barber shops near the Temple of Flora. imagine that treated like a dog 40% of people were not free. Do we know that slavery is such a violation wherever it's expressed. But it was very prominent and many of the people that came to Christ were actually slaves. So let me finish with what G Campbell Morgan says notwithstanding the prevailing conditions the dominant note of these letters the New Testament letters revealing the experience of the church has a note of Triumph the Dyer and Dread facts and conditions are never lost sight of indeed. They are there all the way through The people are seeing going out in facing these facts and suffering because of these facts that we never see them depressed and cast down. We never see them suffering from pessimistic fever. They are always triumphant. That is the glory of Christianity. If ever I'm tempted to think that religion is almost dead today it is when I listen to The Wailing of some Christian people everything is wrong or everything is going wrong. Be quiet think again. Look again judge not by the circumstance of the passing our goodbye the infinite things of Our Gospel and our God and that is exactly what these people did.

Perhaps no one in history has done that better than Joseph.

King David in Psalms 42 verse 11 He said why are you cast down? Oh my soul. And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God for I shall yet Praise Him the health of my countenance and my God.

You know, these are times when it's very easy to feel depressed. We have cabin fever if you're walking and people distrust you, you know, they like you have the plague and maybe you do.

And so here is Joseph and In this passage of our text if his father Jacob is just passed away and his brothers now are very concerned that Joseph is going to retaliate that, you know, he's been playing a good guy as long as his father was around because he didn't want to hurt him. He didn't want his father to see reprisal or Bloodshed and so he just kind of bided his time than so now that Jacob is gone. They're very concerned.

But listen to what are text says verse 15 to 19 when Joseph Brothers saw that their father was dead. They said perhaps Joseph will hate send me actually repay us for all the evil which we did to them. So they sent Messengers to Joseph saying before your father died. He commanded saying. That's you shall say to Joseph. I beg you please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin. They did Evil to you. Now. Please forgive the trespass of the Servants of the god of your father and Joseph wept when they spoke to him. Then his brothers also went and fell down be here for his face. They said behold. We are your servants. Joseph said to them to not be afraid. crime in the place of God

What is amazing?

is that Joseph had the heart that God had

The Heart of Jesus when he was betrayed. When they mocked him and pulled his beard out. And you refuse to get bitter. He looks at them Father forgive them. They don't know what they're doing.

We need to keep our head in the game. No matter what we go through and Joseph illustrates that perfectly amen But not only that we need to be ready to go. Because think about this in one day Joseph goes from being a prisoner. to being second in command of all of Egypt

He was ready. He wasn't in a funk. He didn't have to get himself in shape. He was ready to go. I want to ask you are you ready? If God visits Us in Revival right now. Can you deal with it? Are you available? Can you respond?

I had a brother in the church sent me this he felt it was from the Lord and he felt like you needed to be spoken to the church and I'm not going to reveal doesn't really want to know but it bore witness with my spirit. Anyway, he felt let me just read what he said. I just want to start out by saying it's really not my nature to do this, but I felt compelled by the holy spirit. So I have $0.02. It's a message for the church. It's along the lines of your recent sermons and the term you used in regards to the buy nose returning the term retooling. To use the sports analogy. We are in the offseason. There isn't going to be a preseason. It's going to be straight into competition. God wants his church to use this time and sharpen up and be spiritually ready for what he is going to do because he is working behind the scenes to bring a harvest and if we are not in good spiritual shape, we would not be able to compete for the prize.

Are you in game shape?

Now if and when the NBA gets back to playing it's going to take those players a while, especially if they've just been Lacks. If they've just been indulging. Actually, you know part of the reason I'm wearing black is because black always makes you look thin because all we do is I mean the refrigerator is right there all day anxiety eating right how many people are putting on pounds and the kids non-stop to the refrigerator. You know what I'm talking about?

And that's kind of funny, but spiritually speaking. What kind of shape are we in? If God was to breathe if he was going to send new Converse if he was going to give opportunities for evangelism. Are we in any shape to respond? Like Joseph responded when he was put in charge of Egypt.

There's some incredible things we can learn from Joseph. Verse 20 is perhaps one of the most powerful verses and all the Bible.

It says foot as for you you meant Evil against me but God meant it for good in order to bring it about as it is this day to save many people alive.

You meant it for evil, but God meant this for good. That sometimes the evil things that happened the wrong things the bad things the frustrating things that happened to us in life are the very things that God intends. for good in our life this verse says that bad things that happen to us in life unjust things unfair things. can actually with his grace and prevent providential oversight of Our Lives be the very things that position us for what he wants to do.

Romans 8 verse 28 illustrates this tells us. This is not just an Old Testament concept but very New Testament and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God to those who are called according to his purpose. That for the purpose the the person whose purpose is to serve the Lord to fulfill his will that whatever happens that God is able to compensate and cause the negative in the bad things that actually work out for the good.

So what is his purpose? This isn't just a blank promise for anyone there's a qualification and that is to those who are called according to his purpose see Joseph. Had on his heart the very thing that God had on his heart God's heart was to preserve the people of got to prepare them to help them and and to provide for them.

Look at the end of verse 20. God meant it for good in order to bring it about as it is this day to save many people.

God's purpose has always been to save many people. Ax15 how that God did visit the Gentiles to bring out a people for his name sake got visits to save he's not willing that any perish but that all would come to repentance.

Joseph had on his heart to care for his family. Not to oppress them.

God give us a heart for people. May God bring you here to this place in your life to get you ready to care for the people that he wants to bring in so that brings me to my last point and that is investing in the future. Do you know that our actions that are attitudes today are the very things that are preparing us or preventing us from the future that God wants to bring us to

We have to see beyond ourselves. beyond our circumstance beyond our trials

to the Future that God wants to bring about

what is amazing to me is as we read the last chapters the last verses of the Book of Genesis. These are the last verses of the life of Joseph. That he spends his very end days caring about the future.

Perhaps this has maybe his number one quality was able to see beyond himself upon Beyond his present to the Future. Good verse 21. So they're just been afraid that he's going to kill them hurt them in prison them. Whatever. He says that's not my heart. This is something God ordained and then he says this now therefore do not be afraid. I will provide for you and your little ones and he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. He said, you know what I'm going to take care of you but not only you I'm going to care for your little ones the Next Generation. I'm going to provide for them.

Look at verse 22 and 23. We see this is his spirit in his mindset. So Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he and his father's household and Joseph live 110 years. Joseph saw ephraim's children, his son's children to the third-generation children grandchildren and great-grandchildren the children of nature the son of Manasseh. We're also brought up on Joseph sneeze, you know, this is an incredible testimony.

The fact that he brought them up on his knees tells me that they sat in his lap.

His children his grandchildren this future Generations. He was putting something into them. He cared for them.

Do you care?

When someone gives their lives to Christ the future of the church. the children of the church

Do you invest in them? Are they a nuisance just running around?

making noise causing problems How about the single mothers their children men? Sometimes they could use them. Mel's influence in their lives, but do you care about them new Converse especially? I will tell you this that God is not going to visit a church with Revival if that church will not care. for them You know when Chuck Smith, the Jesus movement was just starting hippies were feeling spiritually oriented coming to Christ. And and it was Chuck Smith's church Calvary Chapel there. They became the leading Church in that whole movement. There was a quality of the people of that church that they would take these long-haired freaks these Stoners and they would work with them and they cared for their man. The help them move to the next level, I think about something Pastor Mitchell said the Canadian conference a couple of years ago. He said that he went out to lunch Sunday after church and he noticed a very old couple from his church. They were there with a new convert buying lunch for investing. in the future

the fact that you're saved tells me that someone invested in you invested prayer. investor care concern

are you investing? in the future

Joseph had a vision Beyond just this life to what God was going to do after he left the scene. And he invested in that look at these last verses is weary 23 and 24 Joseph Tsai apriums children to the 3rd generation.

And Joseph said you was brother and I am dying.

But God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel saying God will surely visit you and you shall carry up my bones from here. You know how we all need a vision? raptorware no longer here the future Brad destiny I want to close with this story comes from the Jewish talmud.

In Roman times, the emperor Hadrian was riding with his army through Galilee as he passed down a lane. He noticed a very old man planting a fig tree in his garden the emperor ordered a soldier to bring the ancient Gardner before him. He then spoke to him as follows old man. Why are you planting that tree the time to plan it was in your youth to Bear your fruit for your old age. It's too late. Now at this stage of life. You can't hope to live to taste fruit from it the old man bow before the Emperor as best as his back would let him and answered in my youth I worked and I still work with God's good pleasure. I may yet try the fruit of this tree. I plant I am in his hands. Tell me your age said the emperor. I've lived for a hundred years a hundred years old and you still expect to eat from the fruit of this tree. If such be God's pleasure replied the old man. If not, I will leave it for my son as my father left the fruits of his labor for me. Well said the emperor if you live until the figs from this tree are ripe. I pray you let me know of it. 10 years went by the tree bore fruit and the old man enjoyed its figs for his breakfast and it was and it so happened that the emperor was again visit in Galilee the old man resolved to visit him. He took a small basket filled it with the choices figs from the tree and made his way to the Palace at the gate. He told the guard his purpose at and after some time he was admitted into the presence of the emperor again, he bowed as deeply as his old back would permit him and said 10 years ago. You saw an old man planting a fig tree you said to him if you live to eat its fruit. I pray you let me know behold that same old man. I have come and brought you the fruit of that tree so that you may also taste it. The emperor was very much pleased to see the old man that lived to enjoy the fruit of his labors. He emptied the man's basket of its figs and he ordered it to be filled with gold coins. When the old man that departed The Courier said to the emperor Your Excellence, why did you so honor This Old Man? The Impaler Emperor replied Heaven has honor to him. So why not? I

amen You know, I believe that if like Joseph we have a heart.

The heart that God wants to save people. And if you like Joseph we will align ourselves with his purpose and invest in the future.

That heaven will be pleased. And that we will live to see. the Next Great Awakening the next great move of God and taste of its fruit are self bow our heads.

Bow your head this evening. and I want to see if you are here listening to my voice tonight in you're not saved. You know, I went through some dark times.

But to get to the kingdom I had to go that way. It was all part of God's plan. I can look back. I can see it clearly now. You know if I would have come to Christ when I was doing well, I probably would have just been filled with myself and went on but he had to Humble me so that he could help me. And I want you to know that that is the nature of God. He allows things that we perhaps perceive is evil, but God means them for good.

Perhaps you've been betrayed like Joseph disappointed let down by life. Maybe you've been in prison, maybe if not physical bars. Maybe the bars of habits and addictions in bondage is but I want you to know that from your prison. There can come a glorious promotion feel Surrender Your Heart to Jesus Christ. I'm not talking about just being religious. I'm talking about genuinely giving your heart to God. If you would like to do that repeat this prayer after me. Lord Jesus

I asked you to forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me from all my unrighteousness. Change me do something in my heart to make me a different person a new person. I do believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and then he rose again on the third day.

Give me power to live for him. And I ask that you would help me to live for you today. I commit myself to follow you. To get to know you. and to serve you thank you for this gift of Salvation in Jesus name. I pray amen. Have you prayed that prayer?

Very important perhaps you're here is the saying to love God. Maybe you've been through some difficult days.
