Isaiah 53:7
Isaiah 53:7bHe was led like a lamb to the slaughter…
A. What are the odds that Messiah would be a lamb?
- All four Gospel writers recognize the analogy:
Mt. 27:31b – …and led Him away to crucify Him.
Mk. 15:20b – They led Him out to crucify Him.
Lk. 23:26a – As they led Him away…
Jn. 19:16b – Then they took Jesus away.
B. The story of the Bible is the story of the Lamb:
1. Genesis 3 – God provided an animal skin to cover Adam and Eve.
The Lord God made clothing from skins for the man and his wife, and he clothed them. Gen.
3:21
2. Genesis 22 – God provided a ram in place of Isaac.
Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in the thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and
took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Gen. 22:13
3. Exodus 12 – The Israelites were spared judgment by sacrificing a lamb.
“Go, select an animal from the flock according to your families, and slaughter the Passover
animal. 22 Take a cluster of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and brush the lintel
and the two doorposts with some of the blood in the basin.” Ex. 12:21-22
4. Isaiah 53 – Messiah would be led like a lamb to the slaughter.
He was led like a lamb to the slaughter… Is. 53:7b
5. John 1 – John identified Jesus as the Lamb of God.
“Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” Jn. 1:29b
6. Revelation 5 – The Lamb is now in heaven, worshiped forever.
I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in
them say, Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the one seated on the throne, and to
the Lamb, forever and ever! Rev. 5:13
7. Revelation 21 – The Lamb will one day light the new heaven.
The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates
it, and its lamp is the Lamb. Rev. 21:23
