Good morning Brothers and Sisters

Our Scripture reading this morning is from 1 John 1 vs 7

"If we walk in the light as He is in the light then We have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin"

Cleaning and sanitising have become buzzwords in South Africa and indeed the whole world.

To deal with the Global Pandemic called Coronavirus everyone is being called upon to limit contact with other people. To wash our hands regularly with soap and water for some 20 seconds. Furthermore, some people are carrying around their own hand sanitizers to regularly clean their hands.

I remember my mom telling us as we were growing up that "cleanliness is next to godliness". Certainly, when we think of God we think of Him being clean in every way.

There have certainly been dire warnings of what Covid19 could mean for countries around the world should they not implement strict measures to slow the rate of infection spread.

Hence the closure of facilities where people gather such as sporting stadia, offices etc. So even churches have been called upon to close their services and find alternatives. I suppose the verse of scripture 'where 2 or 3 are gathered together in my name there I am in the midst of them' seems so.much more real now.

As we have been praying these past few days concerning the events unfolding around us - for God to protect us and keep us. (Remember Psalm 91 we spoke about last Sunday). In some way, I think the rain falling over Johannesburg this weekend is also an answer to our prayers. Not only us it keeping people indoors but it is also cleansing all the surfaces of our city and suburbs. It's even cleaning the air from germs and bacteria and making everything fresh!.

But at this time we cannot merely be focused on cleaning the outside (visible) of our lives. What about the inside (invisible) parts of our lives. I'm speaking of your heart and mind and soul.

Our Scripture in 1 John says that if we walk in the light. Note there is an "IF" because God cannot force you to walk in the light you need to make a decision to do so.

Walk indicates to our movement - living your life – your lifestyle. It's about bringing your life in line with God and His Word. As the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 119 vs 105. ‘your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path’. You see God is in the light. So if you are in the light then God is with you. In God's light, there is no darkness. Light can also signify you being able to see what to do now and know what to do in the future.

2 things take place when you live your life "in the light" of God

Firstly you have unity with other people who are also walking in the light of God. You will closer to and a part of the Body of Christ (people of God) because you have chosen to walk with God

Secondly, the blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse you of all sin. No sanitizer or antibacterial cleanser can deal with the cleaning of sin in your life. Only one 'product can do that - the blood of Jesus Christ.' And yes it cleanses 100% (all sin)

Decide today that whilst you are cleaning the environment around you also clean the inside of your life - determine to walk in the light.

Prayer: Father God I thank you that you provided the one and only product needed to cleanse my life of all sin. Thank you that the blood of your Son, Jesus Christ, poured out on the cross of Calvary cleanses my life of all sin. So determine to walk where you are in the light. AMEN!
