What is the difference between a Christan and a disciple? Is there a difference or are they the same thing?
Jesus never told us to go out and make christians but to make disciples.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
So is a christian the same as a disciple?
Well in a prfct would they would be the same. The word christan and disciple would be interchanible - as it was in the early church.
A Christian is someone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
A Disciple is a disciplened Lerarner who follows Jesus.
They may sound the same, and they may historically Be the same, but in the modren world i do not think thy are same anymore.
I have met many “christians” people who profess to have oput their faith in Jesus Christ - who live absolutly undiscipled lives.
Let me put it to you this way:
I have many “christans” who clearly are not disciples. But i never met a disciple who was not clearly in a deep relationship with Jesus.
So today we are asking: What are the Charciteristics of a true disciple? And does my life reflect them?
1: Their Relationship to Jesus
1: Their Relationship to Jesus
A disciple follows Jesus, with the sole intention to learning from Him, luving for him, and imitatating Him.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Disciples leaen on Jesus.
They Trust in Jesus.
1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
They confess him, they talk aboout him, thy evangelise Him.
38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
They follow and study His teaching as to imitate and reflect him.
27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
10 nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for a worker is worthy of his food.

21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
There apparenbtly was an old Jewish saying that went: may the dust from your rabbies shoes bfall upon your feet.
Whch meant may you follow him so closley that the small clounds of dust his feet kicvk up as he walks land on your feet.
Walking and abiding so closly in Jesus means that disciples share a relationship with Jesus to many things.
Their Relationship With the Cross
Their Relationship With the Cross
Jesus was not afraid of the cross he was called to bear. He did not look forward to it, but he gladly bore it.
That whu the old hym is called: Keep thou my way says:
Keep Thou my all, O Lord, Hide my life in Thine;
O let Thy sacred light O'er my pathway shine;
Kept by Thy tender care, Gladly the cross I'll bear
Hear Thou and grant my pray'r, Hide my life in Thine.
Many “christnas” do all they can to avoid carrying the cross, which simply means self sacrifice. many cannot even sacrifice 1 hour a week to attend a church service.
But disciples are always ready to make whatever sacrifice is asked.
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Their Relationship with the Father
Their Relationship with the Father
Jesus always had the glory of the Father on his mind.
While on earth his highest priority was that the Father be glorified.
4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
jn 17 1-
Likewise a true disciples live and speaks and conducts his life in a manner than brings the Father glory.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
What does this all entail?
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
It means that at every meal, every conversation, every public and private moemnt in your life - your conduct and speech brings glory to the Father.
Their Relationship with the Church
Their Relationship with the Church
Lets make this as clear as we can: You are NOT a true disciple if you do not belong and attend a local church where you submit to the leadership and subject yourself to accountability.
Jesus loves his church. It is his bride, it is his own body.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
Jesus regared the church as his actual family and so should his disciples.
34 And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
35 For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.”
You cannot be a discipel and be seperate from the body of Christ.
Their Relationship with the World
Their Relationship with the World
We are given a very clear commandment by God:
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Jesus was in the world but he was not of the World. He weas of heaven.
In the same way, we have been born again from above and like our Savior we are in the world but on of the World.
Jesus said:
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
If you become so much like the world in your habits, taists, music, fashion, speech, pleasures you have lost that which makes you a true disciple.
Many christnas follow the old addage:
Look but dont touch - Touch but dont taste - taste but dont swollow.
But a true disciples hears the command of God:
17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
The only thing in this world that true disciple wants is to spreasd the message of Jesus.
to tell people about their impending danger of Hell, and share the good news of what Jesus had done.
Not to make converts, but to make true disciples.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
And so we have come full circle.
Are you are true disciple?
What is your relationship with Jesus, the Father, the church, the cross and the world like?
Does it reflect those of Jesus?
