Hebrews 8:1 LEB
Now this is the main point in what has been said: we have a high priest such as this, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

Everything that has been discussed so far is summarized here.

Hebrews 8:1 LEB
Now this is the main point in what has been said: we have a high priest such as this, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,
Psalm 110:1 LEB
A declaration of Yahweh to my lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”
Psalm 110:4 LEB
Yahweh has sworn and he will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever according to the manner of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 1:3 LEB
who is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, sustaining all things by the word of power. When he had made purification for sins through him, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Christ is King and High Priest

Hebrews 8:2 LEB
a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord set up, not man.
Isaiah 6 LEB
In the year of the death of Uzziah the king, I saw the Lord sitting on a high and raised throne, and the hem of his robe was filling the temple. Seraphs were standing above him. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And the one called to the other and said, “Holy, holy, holy is Yahweh of hosts! The whole earth is full of his glory.” And the pivots of the thresholds shook from the sound of those who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said, “Woe to me! For I am destroyed! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I am living among a people of unclean lips, for my eyes have seen the king, Yahweh of hosts!” Then one of the seraphs flew to me, and in his hand was a hot coal he had taken from the altar with tongs. And he touched my mouth, and he said, “Look! This has touched your lips and has removed your guilt, and your sin is annulled.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “I am here! Send me!” And he said, “Go and say to this people, ‘Keep on listening and do not comprehend! And keep on looking and do not understand!’ Make the heart of this people insensitive, and make its ears unresponsive, and shut its eyes so that it may not look with its eyes and listen with its ears and comprehend with its mind and turn back, and it may be healed for him.” Then I said, “Until when, Lord?” And he said, “Until the cities lie wasted without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is ruined and a waste, and Yahweh sends the people far away, and the abandonment is great in the midst of the land. And even if only a tenth part remain, again she will be destroyed like a terebinth or like an oak, which although felled, a tree stump remains in them. The seed of holiness will be her tree stump.”

Why does he say, “the true tabernacle”?

This is the heavenly tabernacle, God’s Throne Room, where He rules over the universe.

He set it up.

Hebrews 8:3–4 LEB
For every high priest is appointed in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices; therefore it was necessary for this one also to have something that he offers. Now if he were on earth, he would not even be a priest, because there are those who offer the gifts according to the law,
Hebrews 7:27 LEB
who does not need every day like the former high priests to offer up sacrifices for his own sins and then for the sins of the people, because he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

Christ offered a sacrifice, just like the other priests did.

But His sacrifice wasn’t like theirs.

What was His sacrifice?

His sacrifice was Himself.

Hebrews 8:4–5 LEB
Now if he were on earth, he would not even be a priest, because there are those who offer the gifts according to the law, who serve a sketch and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned when he was about to complete the tabernacle, for he says, “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern which was shown to you on the mountain.”
Exodus 25:9 LEB
according to all that I show you—the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its equipment—and so you will do.
Exodus 25:40 LEB
And see and make all according to their pattern, which you were shown in the mountain.
Exodus 27:8 LEB
You will make it hollow with boards. As it was shown you on the mountain, so they will do.
Hebrews 7:14–16 LEB
For it is evident that our Lord is a descendant of Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses said nothing concerning priests. And it is still more clear, if another priest according to the likeness of Melchizedek arises, who has become a priest not according to a law of physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life.

Christ doesn’t serve the earthly tabernacle.

The tabernacle was a sketch and a shadow of the real thing.

So it is only beneficial as it points toward the heavenly tabernacle.

This is why it had to be made exactly according to God’s Pattern.

Hebrews 8:6–7 LEB
But now he has attained a more excellent ministry, by as much as he is also mediator of a better covenant which has been enacted upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, occasion would not have been sought for a second.

Jesus’ Ministry is better than the other priests’.

They mediated the the Old Covenant of Law

He mediates the New Covenant.

What is a mediator?

What is a covenant?

Hebrews 8:8–12 LEB
For in finding fault with them he says, “Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I took hold of them by my hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I disregarded them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will decree with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I am putting my laws in their minds and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be their God and they will be my people. And they will not teach each one his fellow citizen and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their wrongdoings, and I will not remember their sins any longer.”
Exodus 24:12 LEB
And Yahweh said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and be there, and I will give you the tablets of stone and the law and the commandments that I have written to instruct them.”
Exodus 34:1 LEB
And Yahweh said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.
Deuteronomy 30:6 LEB
“And Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring to love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your inner self so that you may live.
Jeremiah 24:7 LEB
And I will give to them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh, and they will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with the whole of their heart.
Jeremiah 31:31–34 LEB
Look, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “and I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day of my grasping them by their hand, bringing them out from the land of Egypt, my covenant that they themselves broke, though I myself was a master over them,” declares Yahweh. “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares Yahweh: “I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people. And they will no longer teach each one his neighbor, or each one his brother, saying, ‘Know Yahweh,’ for all of them will know me, from their smallest and up to their greatest,” declares Yahweh, “for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will no longer remember.”
Zechariah 8:8 LEB
and I will bring them and they will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. They will be my people and I will be their God in faithfulness and in righteousness.’
Ezekiel 37:25–28 LEB
And they will dwell on the land that I gave to my servant, to Jacob, in which your ancestors dwelled, and they will dwell on it, they and their children and the children of their children forever, and my servant David will be a leader for them forever. And I will make with them a covenant of peace; an everlasting covenant it will be with them. And I will establish them, and I will cause them to increase, and I will put my sanctuary in the midst of them forever. And my tabernacle will be with them, and I will be for them as God, and they will be to me as a nation. And the nations will know that I, Yahweh, am consecrating Israel when my sanctuary is in the midst of them forever.” ’ ”

What are the terms of the Old Covenant?

Laws written on stones and scrolls.

What are the terms of the New Covenant?

Laws written on minds and hearts.

I will be their God.

They will be my people.

All will know the LORD.

Sins forgiven and forgotten.

Hebrews 8:13 LEB
In calling it new, he has declared the former to be old. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is near to disappearing.

The Old is obsolete.

Christ brings the New Covenant through the Holy Spirit.
