Acts 6:1 NIV
In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
talk about the church being completely Jewish at this point.
however there were Greek Jews who came from the dispersed area
In the old testament Widows and orphans were supposed to be taken care of.
There may have been a lot of Greek speaking widows because many of the people who were dispersed would come back to Jerusalem to spend their last years so that they could die in the Holy City.
This is also one of the first times we see the clergy empowering the laity to do ministry..
it is awesome that they gather the entire community together.
of course Stephen becomes the first martyr.
in we find out that Phillip goes to the city in Samaria and proclaims Jesus boldly and casts out demons.
many of the poor priests in Jerusalem became Christian.. talk about this..
Stephen was a Hellenistic Jew.. it was his own people, who rally against him.

Paul.. who himself was a hellenistic Jew… he was a Cilician.

Paul argued in with Asian Jews, and in with greek speaking Jews...
This is the first time in acts that the people are also against the teaching of the Apostles and the disciples.
