Blood Covenant # 5
In this V we can see that God has entered into a covenant with the Children of Israel, (Galatians 3:29) Says, “And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.” If we belong to Christ then we are just as much in a covenant with God as the Israelites are. We are now the spiritual seed of Israel.
I. In today's message I want to answer the questions, Why did God enter into a covenant with man? What was the reason for the Old Covenant? How did God enter into a covenant with mankind? And what were some of the obstacles He faced with entering into a covenant?
A. In order to answer that we have to go back to the Garden of Eden. In (Genesis 1:1) It says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
1. We know that God created everything.
a. In this V the word “God” in the Hebrew is in the plural It's “Elohyim” Which refers to God the Father, God the Son, & God the H. S.
b. (Colossians 1:16) Tells us that all things were created by Jesus.
2. Now look at GEN 1:28.
a. In other words God said to Adam. “I give you authority over all that I have created on earth.”
i. Adam was in full control of the earth.
b. But then came Satan, in the form of a serpent.
i. He tricked Eve into eating the fruit of the tree.
3. GEN 2:17.
a. Did Adam & Eve die when they ate of the fruit?
i. Really they did die.
ii. When God said, “Thou shalt surely die,” In the Hebrew it actually says, “In dying thou shalt die.”
b. This is talking about 2 deaths.
i. Spiritual death & natural death.
ii. God was saying “When you eat of that fruit you will die spiritually & in that spiritual death you will die Physically.”
iii. When Adam & Eve ate that fruit they both died spiritually, It wasn't until years later that they died physically.
B. When Adam experienced that sin, he immediately lost the ability to operate in the supernatural. He had to resort to his physical strength & ability.
1. He had to operate in God's strength & God's ability when he was in the garden.
a. If you remember he named all the animals in the world & remembered the the ir names.
i. He was in complete authority on the earth before his sin.
ii. The animals listened to his voice. I imagine that even the vegetation obeyed his voice.
b. But he lost all that when he sinned & broke his fellowship with God.
i. GEN 3:17-19.
And ii. Now Adam was going to have to work hard. Things were not going to obey his voice as they did before.
2. That's not all that happened.
a. Adam became aware of his Nakedness.
b. Look at GEN 3:7.
i. Their sin not only made them aware of their physical nakedness, but it also made them aware of their spiritual nakedness.
c. GEN 3:8.
i. They were aware of their spiritual nakedness and they were ashamed.
ii. Adam & Eve were clothed with the glory of God before their sin.
iii. The sin caused them to lose their fellowship with God, & the glory of God was no longer there.
d. We know that Adam had the glory of God upon him.
i. The Bible says in (Genesis 3:8) From the KJV That they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.
ii. Most other translations say that they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the Garden.
iii. Adam & Eve were familiar with the sound that God made when He walked in the garden. To be familiar with someone's sound you need to know them pretty well.
iv. Adam walked with God in the garden often. When you are in the presence of God, you're going to shine with the glory of God.
3. Now that was gone, the fellowship with God was broken.
a. In (GEN 3:9) God called out to Adam “Where are you.”
i. In other words “What happened to our fellowship.”
II. After the sin God says something to Satan. Let’s pick it up from there. GEN 3:14-15.
A. Right there, God is saying that He is going to bring a new Adam into the earth.
1. This new Adam would bruise or crush the serpent's head.
B. What is man's situation now after Adam's sin?
1. He was lost without hope.
a. He had no way of coming back into fellowship with God again.
b. Hell is what man had to look forward to.
i. The nature of the Devil began to work in mans heart.
C. In order for God to help mankind & to bring the human race back into the relationship that Adam & Eve had before their sin, God had to do 2 things.
1. 1st, He has break Satan's power over man.
a. Right after Adam's sin, Satan became their god.
b. 2TIM 2:26.
i. He's brought them into captivity, he's taken control of them, taken charge of them & does basically what he wants (wills) with them.
ii. God cannot do anything until he breaks Satan power over them.
2. The 2nd thing God has to do, in order to redeem man, (or bring him back into that 1st state before that sin) is that He has to pay the penalty for man's sin.
a. (Hebrews 9:22) Says, “Without shedding of blood is no remission.”
b. God had to find someone that was righteous to give His life & shed His blood for mankind.
c. Sin cannot enter into heaven, nor can it have fellowship with God.
3. God had to 1st break Satan's power & 2nd remove Adam's sin by getting someone, who was righteous to shed His blood.
III. How does god go about doing this?
A. 1st of the Bible says in (Romans 3:23) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
1. So no normal man could shed his blood for us because there was none righteous.
a. (Romans 3:10) Says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: ”
2. This caused a problem. No normal man could die for our sins.
a. So God was going to have to create a new man, but he couldn't create the new man, the 2nd Adam in the same way He did the 1st Adam, from the dust of the ground.
i. Some people will say, “Why not?”
ii. The earth didn't belong to Him anymore.
iii. He gave it to Adam & Adam gave it to the devil.
b. And we can prove that. MATT 4:1-9.
i. If the earth didn't belong to him then how could he give it away?
ii. Look at MATT 4:10.
ii. Jesus never disputed that the kingdoms were his to give.
c. In (2COR 4:4) it calls Satan the god of this world.
i. Satan stole this authority from Adam.
ii. Really the Devil is walking around with Adam's authority.
d. Satan is in control of what's happening on this planet.
i. That's why Jesus commanded us to use our authority, to bind & loose.
ii. Otherwise the Devil will just run rampant. It's up to us to be the light of the world.
B. God's plan was to bring a new Adam to this planet to rectify what the old Adam did.
1. To do this, God had to find a man that He could enter into a covenant with.
2. God had to work this way because He had no way of interfering on this planet –it didn't belong to Him.
a. The people who lived here had a right to be here, & they had certain rights & privileges on this planet.
b. God knew that if He could find a man to enter into a covenant with (become one with) they would equally share everything that they owned.
i. If God had the rights that belonged to the man he could operate with his rights on this planet.
C. God began to look for a man who would give all.
1. That's the requirements of the covenant relationship.
a. And that's why God chose Abram.
b. The only way that God could get access to Abram's rights, to Abram's authority, & to his abilities on this planet, was by making a covenant.
i. In doing this they shared everything equally.
2. What God really wanted to do, was to use Abram's seed, to bring a body into this earth for the New Adam.
a. Through Abram's seed, there would be a woman, named Mary, that God would use to bring forth the new Adam.
i. 1COR 15:45.
ii. The words “quickening spirit” means “life-giving spirit.”
b. Who was this 2nd Adam, this life giving spirit?
i. 1COR 15:47–48.
ii. Of course, it's the Lord Jesus Christ.
iii. He was the one that would be sacrificed for us & shed His blood for the remission of our sins.
c. In (1COR 15:22) it say, “For as in Adam all die.”
i. All those that are born of the seed of the 1st Adam all die a spiritual death.
ii. But that same V goes on to say, “Even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”
iii. Jesus Christ is that 2nd Adam & He came to rectify all that the 1st Adam messed up.
3. John records Jesus as saying, “Behold I was dead, but I am alive for evermore.” “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.”
a. Jesus Christ, the only truly righteous one came to repair the problem that the 1st Adam caused and now we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
