The Trust Fall

Most of us are familiar with trust falls, but never comfortable being asked to do one. This activity when done in a group setting, shows us how untrusting we are in general.
The world we live in has trained us to believe that trust is one of the worst attributes to have since it will always be abused.

In this time of REBOOT, it is one thing for you to hear me say that God is a strong tower, you can run in and be safe or Trust in the Lord with all your heart…he will direct your paths, but its a totally different story when you’re having to trust fall into those truths.

This is my goal in this message. I want to encourage you to take a trust fall exercise with me.

As I said last week, all the exercises we do in the reboot rest on an embrace of three "must-haves” - The reality of Jesus’s finished work at the cross, The demonstrated power of the Holy Spirit for today, a love for God’s written Word.

THE PROBLEM OF MYSELF

We ourselves are the most trustworthy person we know,

even in the midst of self-doubt, our decision making is governed by what makes most sense to us in the moment- the willingness to act on a thought or word we belive to be true to us personally.

That’s self-assurance .

Some of us are more confident in ourselves than others, but we all have a measure of self-reliance

Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Jeremiah 17:7–10 ESV
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

So when the word of God comes along and asks us not to trust in ourself but His word , is it really asking us to be self-doubting unassured people who are brain-washed by some religious mumbo-jumbo?

NOT SO, quite the contrary. This area of growth in a child of God needs to be nutured deliberately if it is going to make a real difference.

Jer 17:
Isaiah 35:3–4 ESV
Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.”
Hebrews 13:5–6 ESV
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
Isaiah 35:1–5 ESV
The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
Isaiah 35:1–8 ESV
The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing. Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.
;

It is not a matter of speakind the right FAITH scriptures if the relational trust hasn’t been built in to begin with.

All faith acts depend on a growing testimony of trust in a God who is faithful. Great faith springs from great trust.
