Hello again and thank you for joining me for our 190th episode of Kids Bible Minute. I’m your host Landon Rowell and also I’m the preacher for the church of Christ here in Ramona, OK. Thank you for taking time out of your day today to study God’s precious Word with me. I would like to also thank the Oologah church of Christ for making this program possible. I hope you have your Bible ready so that when I mention a Bible verse you can pause this podcast, open your Bible to that scripture and see it for yourself. Now, typically when you unpause the podcast I will read the verse out loud so that you can simply follow along with me but in case I don't you have now read each verse for yourself. If you are new to our study, first I want to say thank you for studying with us and secondly I want to let you know that you can reach all archived or past episodes easily at ramonacofc.com in the podcast section where there is a direct link to Kids Bible Minute past episodes. As most of you know we have been studying from the book of Revelation, though we detoured last week, but this week we are back and examining this powerfully needed book today. As I said in the beginning, the book of Revelation is the Job of the Old Testament. It was written to comfort during extreme uncertainty in time. In chapter five we are in the middle of the introduction to the meat of the book, the “why this book of written” if you will. As we saw in chapter four we have God the Father, in all His majesty, on His throne receiving His just worship. As we move to our text today we see He is holding a scroll that is written on with seven seals.
Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
Rev 5.1
Now, as we began this study I said we won’t be going into detail about every little symbolism as you saw last week. The point of this study is to bring the over all message of each thought or section and highlight what is necessary with the symbolism. With that said remember what the number seven means, it means “that which is perfectly complete.” This scroll has the complete message from God written in it. However, as verses two through four points out no one seems worthy to open the scroll and read it, even causing the apostle John to weep. However, one of the elders from the previous chapter speaks to John and says in …
And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Here we have the focus of this chapter and the theme of this three chapter intro into the rest of the book. Jesus is worthy of opening the scroll and the seals, but why? Before we answer that I want to leave you some passages to read that leaves no doubt this is Jesus being talked about here (; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ). So why does the elder say Jesus is worthy to take the scroll and open it, because He “has conquered.” The word conquered here means to gain victory over and that is what the Lamb of God did was conquer death and redeem His creation. Look at what is said by those worshiping the Lamb of God in .
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
Jesus, the Lamb of God, was worthy to open this scroll and its seals because He shed His precious blood for His creation (), buying our souls back from the grasp of Satan by conquering death (). When you worship remember Jesus’ sacrifice and like the elders and living creatures seen in heaven here, praise Jesus for such!!!
