1 Timothy 4:1–8 NASB95
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude; for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer. In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following. But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

1 Timothy 6:1–5 NASB95
All who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so that the name of God and our doctrine will not be spoken against. Those who have believers as their masters must not be disrespectful to them because they are brethren, but must serve them all the more, because those who partake of the benefit are believers and beloved. Teach and preach these principles. If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.
Lesson 4, Cross References
Men Straying from the truth pg. 36
1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.
4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;
5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.
6 In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the csound doctrine which you have been following.
7 But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;
8 for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.1

6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.1

Ashamed/not being ashamed pg. 37
()
 38      “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”[1]
 16      For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.[2]
Vs 19 The Lord Knows who are His/This seal

(NASB95)
21     Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God,
22     who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.

;
13     In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
14     who is agiven as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory...
30     Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

21     “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
22     “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
23     “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

(NASB95)
24     Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
 25     “But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.
26     “But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also.
27     “The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’
28     “And he said to them, ‘An enemy has done this!’ The slaves *said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?’
29     “But he *said, ‘No; for while you are gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them.
30     ‘Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them up; but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

(NASB95)
36     Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”
37     And He said, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,
38     and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one;
39     and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.
40     “So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age.
41     “The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness,
42     and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
43     “Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

(NASB95)
22     And He was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching, and proceeding on His way to Jerusalem.
23     And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them,
24     “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
25     “Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’
26     “Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’;
27     and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU EVILDOERS.’
28     “In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being thrown out.

(NASB95)
14     “I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me,
15     even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

27     “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
28     and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

Cleansing oneself

(NASB95)
33     Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”

(NASB95)
6     Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us.
7     For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you,
8     nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you;
9     not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example.
10     For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
11     For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.
12     Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread.
13     But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.
14     If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame.
15     Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
