John is speaking of Eternal life.
We need this Eternal life because We Lost it all, God in the person and work of Jesus Gives it all, and We get it all!.
Kind of as some foreground here as we enter into as A recap:
John Chapters 1-5 John answers the question: Who Is Jesus?
He answers this question by establishing that Jesus is God who came to Die, who was miracelously revealed, who satisfies our deepest thirst and heals those who want to be healed!
In chapters 6-10 John Answers the question “what is saving faint?
He answers this by establishing that Saving faith is Required, it is not about knowledge. it is not about belieing the facts and events about Jesus are tru, but rather Saving faith is a miracelous Faith and it is Key to eternal life.
In chapters 11-15 John answers the questions WHat do we get when our faiht is IN Jesus - When were ALL IN whith Jesus?
We get resurrected from death to life to be true followers not just fans, serving Jesus and others around us, filled with the Holy Spirit of God and fruitful for His kingdom.
In Chapters 16-21 John is going to set the themes in answering the question : Whn our trus saving faith IN Jesus who is God himself, Transforms us and ressurects us and Fills us with His spirit, What Does God Provide?
And as you read Here is what you will find.
In chapter 16 God Provides the Holy Spirit that will convict the world of the sin that we all have, That righteousness is only found in Jesus and that Judgement of others walk with Jesus is not something we should be into. and this Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth and ONLY glorify JESUS!
In chapter 17 God provides Jesus as our High Priest who prays for us, our eternity and declares that we are safe in Him when we belong to Him.
In Chapter 18 God provides A willing sacrifice in Jesus as Jesus takes all authority over His persecutors and willingly participates in the only reason He came, that was to Die.
In Chapter 19 - God Provides a Finished Work
Chapter 20 - God provides life and Direction for all who would follow Jesus. A Jesus Sends us His followers as The Father has sent Jesus.
In chapter 21 God provides on going Grace - Peter, the loud mouth of the bunch, denies Jesus three times and Jesus off sets each one with Three affirmations of Peters ministry and service to the Kingdom with Three “Feed my Sheep”

TRUTH
TRUTH
John 19:1–42 NASB95
1 Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him. 2 And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him; 3 and they began to come up to Him and say, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and to give Him slaps in the face. 4 Pilate came out again and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you so that you may know that I find no guilt in Him.” 5 Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold, the Man!” 6 So when the chief priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out saying, “Crucify, crucify!” Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I find no guilt in Him.” 7 The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.” 8 Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid; 9 and he entered into the Praetorium again and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. 10 So Pilate said to Him, “You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?” 11 Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” 12 As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, “If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.” 13 Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. 14 Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!” 15 So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” 16 So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified. 17 They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. 18 There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. 19 Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, “JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.” 20 Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek. 21 So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews’; but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’ ” 22 Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” 23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece. 24 So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be”; this was to fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My outer garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.” 25 Therefore the soldiers did these things. But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own household. 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. 30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. 31 Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him; 33 but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. 36 For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “Not a bone of Him shall be broken.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.” 38 After these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body. 39 Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds weight. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. 41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. 42 Therefore because of the Jewish day of preparation, since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
BACKGROUND
BACKGROUND
So coming off of chapter 18 where the Jewish Leaders have taken Jesus before the Governor of Jerusalem, Te Jewish Leader had a specific Charge against esus that they though would engrage the roman governor to put Jesus to death - They Made the Claim that Jesus was Self Proclaiming to be The King of the Jews.
This would have been a treason act and worthy of Death - The Jewish Leaders have tried to Kill Jesus many times before but were unsuccessful! So they took Jesus to the Roman Government to get Him Killed.
Pilate the Governor has questioned Jesus and as to the claim of Being King of the Pilate says “I find no fault in Him” he takes Him to the Jewish Leaders and Asks to release Him and they say Release Barabbas and crucify Jesus.
UNPACKING
As chapter 19 begins so does the purpose fro which Jesus came - The work that Jesus came to do begins in full - Pilate having released a guy named Barabbas to the Jewish Leaders takes Jesus and turns him over to the people who are skilled at torchor and killing and has Him “scourged” the text says -
These guys add further insult to injury by adding a crown of thorns and a purple robe to this so called self proclaimed King of the Jews as they mock Him and slap him and hammer the thrones into his skull.
Pilate then again says tot he Jewish Leaders “I am bringing him out and I find No guilt in Him.”
Pilate says for the second time “this guys is innocent and does not deserve to suffer the most gruesome way to be executed ever invented by mankind”
At this point Pilate is wishing that we was done with all of this - “Behold the Man” he says - He does not say “behold your king” as Pilate is not happy with this whole thing.
The Jewish leaders scream crucify and Pilate respond - “do it your self”
The Jewish leader then bring out in the open the real reason they want Jesus Dead - in Vs 7 they say “We have a Law and by that Law He ought to Die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God -
Vs 8 when Pilate hear this He was Even MORE afraid - This is such and interesting statement - Pilate was more afraid? this indicates that he was afraid before and no one knew it - I can only imagine - Pilate who was knit in His mothers womb by Jesus himself God Standing in front of Him He declares Three time “I have found No guilt in Him” There has to be this disturbance in His spirit that Says I am messing with the Wrong thing here and His wife has Nightmares about it and send Him a note saying Stay away - Pilate must have been terrified -
He then takes Jesus back inside and questions him again and Jesus lets plate know who is really in charge - Jesus in no way and at no time showed anything but authority through out - Jesus was lord and master even in His own death.
The Jewish leaders coerce Pilate to carry through with the execution and Jesus is executed by means of crucifixion - The cruelest form of execution ever invented by mankind.
Notice the things that happen Here - Jesus gets crucified between two other men, Pilate wrote “Jesus the Nazarene , the King of the Jews!
This was CLREALY a slam against the Jewish leader which put Pilate in a pinch to have Jesus killed and Pilate wanted NO blam in this at all - Pilate puts this over the head of Jesus in every language of the time to Clearly Say to the JEWS “you killed your own king”
These guys even argue with Pilate and Pilate says I have written what I have written.
The solders cast lots for Jesus clothing, so as to not tear it apart.
Jesus hands anf feet are pierced!
He says from the Cross “I am thirsty”
Jesus passes away and they take His body after the solders Pass from breaking His bones.
In Jesus dying breath Jesus says “IT is Finished” -
Jesus declared that the work that He was sent to do was completed - Everything necessary to provide the repair of the Broken relationship of Man with God was complete.
God provided the Finished work.
In - A Psalm of David written some 1000 years before these events. David wrote these words and through the spirit of God was describing what Jesus was going through!
David wrote in - the very words Jesus would recite form the Cross. “my god my god why have you forsaken me”
David would characterize the events o the Crucifixion further in vs 6 “but I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by my one people - All who see me sneer at me!
Jesus was hung on a cross on a Hill so everyone who passed by would see - Many that day would mock and sneer at Him. The public view of his death was humiliating.
Vs 14 pf the Psalm - I am poured out like water - Jesus side was pierced and water flowed - All of my bones are our of joint — Joints dislocate in crucifixion.
Jesus says “I am thirsty and the Psalmist says “My strength dried up like a Potsherd and my tongue cleaves to my Jaws -
VS 16 Dogs have surrounded me - The Jewish people used to refer to Romans and other gentile - NON Jewish people as Dogs.
A band of evil doers encompasses me - Jesus is on the cross surrounded by criminals - One on his right and one on His left.
When it came time to remove Jesus from the cross the Roman guards did not have to break his legs to speed up his death as he was already dead. The Psalmist Says “I can count all my bones”
In vs 29 the psalmist Says “All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him even he who cannot keep His soul alive. The coming generations will serve Him, The Coming Generations will hear of Him and will declare His righteousness and there will be a coming people who are going to be born that HE has Performed IT.
Jesus has performed IT HE has finished the work - HE has provided the Way of our broken relationship with God to Be prepared

APPLICATION
You know we live in strange and uncomfortable times. Times of uncertainty, Fear of our tomorrows - Big lingering questions like what does this all look like 6 months or a year from now?
Here is the Ultimate Hope that we must keep our eyes on - God has provided for all who believe IN Jesus a completed work of repairing our broken relationship with God.
This is our Home - This is our Rock - This is our reality - This is the anchor in the storm - This is our fortress and this is the Horn of our salvation.
Every Single person born is in desperate need of having their relationship with God restored back because all of us have broken our relationship. We need God to provide the finnished work because it is a work we could not do.
Here is why!
The GOSPEL
The GOSPEL
In the beginning when this entire thing called life got started, many years ago, God created all things and He created man in His own image. God and man were in perfect relationship with one another. God gave man one boundary that they should not eat the fruit of a particular tree. But man looked at the fruit and saw that it looked like it would taste good and was told that it would make man like God. The instructions from God started to not make sense to the man and he made a choice independent of God to live a life that made sense to man and took a bite of the fruit of the tree. In doing this he rebelled against God. When he rebelled against God his relationship with God was broken and with this rebellion came death. The Bible calls this rebellion sin.
Each one of us is born into this same broken state. Because of this we naturally rebel against God and because of our own rebellion against God our relationship with God is Broken. This brokenness overflows into everything about our life. In our state of brokenness we our ability to have a relationship with God is broken: our ability to have a healthy relationship with our self and with each other is broken and even our ability to have a healthy relationship with the creation around us is broken. Because we all are naturally in rebellion against God, everything and everyone is broken and in desperate need of having this brokenness repaired and put back into right relationship with God our creator. The Only one capable of repairing this kind of Brokenness is God.
The Gospel, the Good news is that God is putting all things back into right relationship with Himself through the person and work of Jesus Christ. God restores people back into a right relationship with Himself by calling all men to faith and He restores, recovers, redeems and reconciles those back into right relationship those who turn their whole life to Him in a living faith. The Bible calls this repentance!
Faith in what? Faith in the historical facts that God, in His loving kindness, provided all of mankind an open door of being back into right relationship with Him by taking on flesh and dwelling among us as a man named Jesus. Jesus, who was fully God and fully man, lived a morally perfect life, never rebelling against God, as a completely innocent person freely accepted the sentence of death on a roman cross. Faith in the fact that when Jesus’s blood was being poured out on the cross and He died, He, as God, paid the price for our rebellion and satisfied the Wrath of God and in doing so all of our sin and rebellion against God is completely forgiven. Faith in the historical event that three days after His death God raised Jesus from the dead by the same power that created all things and in those two acts of dying and being raised from the dead, Jesus defeated Sin and Death once for all for those who believe.
