A Name for Jesus

Yahweh - understood now, forgotten, reminded
With that in mind, other names = description

From Passover to Passion Week

1) 10th Plague - Death of firstborn -

Death of sacrifice
Shown by blood on doorposts - if there was blood, the sacrifice was dead
Saved the firstborn of Israelites - anyone
Faith in the promise - that by this sacrifice, life was spared
? Boldness on display ?
People in house were “covered” by the blood (blood = death of sacrifice)
Believers are “covered” by Christ’s blood (His blood = His death)
Lamb - sacrificial, his blood on doorposts, lamb had been killed
Jesus - sacrificial, His blood on the cross, Jesus had been killed
,
Blood spread with HYSSOP - keep that in mind

2) Remembrance - Connecting Passover to Lord’s Supper

To remember freedom from Egyptian bondage
God protected His people - based on their trust in Him for freedom
We remember freedom from sin
God protects His people (spiritually) - from death (spiritual) - forever
The blood showed death, and death was defeated by sacrificial death - Death is swallowed up in victory
1 Corinthians 15:20 NASB95
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
1 Corinthians 15:55 NASB95
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

What is it we remember (call to mind)?

Passover meal = Last Supper
Last Supper is NOT Lord’s Supper
Jesus instituted what we call the Lord’s Supper/Communion AFTER their Passover meal.
For those with Jesus, it was the PERFECT connection, they understood the lamb that was sacrificed, and remembered what they had been taught
They understood the lamb represented the trust that had been placed in Yahweh centuries before (about 1400 years)
Once Jesus is crucified and resurrected, they GET IT! - and they would always remember, always call it to mind, what He had done
It wasn’t just a meal, or a ritual, when they took Communion, they were actively remembering what Jesus had done - finished!
US - we don’t remember the Passover, nor do we need to; the exodus does not carry meaning for us, nor should it
except to see that God never changes - He loves and sacrificed for His people
We now remember Jesus’s death, His resurrection, when we participate in the Lord’s Supper
NOW - personal - each person - young, old, middle... must be personally connected by faith - and we remember that promise, Yahweh’s promise - personally

3) Jesus Christ - Lamb of God - the connection

1 - 14th day
Passover lamb - slain, eve of Passover, 14th of Nisan, first month of the Jewish calendar (REM - “eve” = daytime, days began with evening)
Jesus - crucified 14th of first month
2 - Unblemished
Passover lamb - had to be spotless, undamaged, healthy
Jesus - Complete, unscathed, intact, PERFECT
3 - One year old
Passover lamb - at the prime of life
Jesus - 33, young adult, prime of life
4 - Male (self-explanatory)
5 - Four days
Lamb - brought into home 4 days before the 14th
Jesus - came into Jerusalem 4 days prior to Passover
6 - Bones
Lamb - none were to be broken, before, during cooking, and while eating
Jesus - not a single bone was broken
7 - Leftovers
Passover lamb - totally consumed that night
Jesus - taken from cross same evening of death (not customary); we must consume His Word, by faith, living surrendered to Him
8 - Firstborn
Passover lamb - died in place of the firstborn of Israel
Jesus - died in our place, anyone’s place
9 - Blood
Passover lamb - represented the death of the sacrifice
Jesus - His shed blood = His death
10 - Liberation
Passover lamb - opened the way of liberation from Egyptian slavery
Jesus - opened THE way from bondage of sin
John 14:6 NASB95
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

4) Now Be Prepared

Verse 11 - all point to that moment of being prepared to follow God’s leading
US
Trust - confess, and trust Jesus personally
Remember - Jesus is always first in our minds
Go - serve, let people see Christ in you
Yahweh led Israel to the promised Land - overcoming all obstacles
It began with Him showing up in person to Moses
Yahweh - through Jesus - leads His followers to eternal life, Heaven, forever with Him - through and because of Christ!
It began with Him showing up in person
John 1:
John 1:14 NASB95
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
This week - call to mind - remember
The ultimate price was paid
By week’s end, all seemed lost
That’s where we leave it today
Thankfully knowing the rest of the story.
Let’s remember what Jesus did for us!
