6 God sent a man, John the Baptist,* 7 to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8 John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. 9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

Birth of Jesus
The story of the visitors from the East may be divided into six brief scenes:
(1) The visitors from the East arrive in Jerusalem (1–2);
(2) Herod and the teachers of the Law (3–6);
(3) Herod and the visitors from the East (7–8);
(4) The visitors on their way to find the child (9–10);
(5) The visitors worship the child (11);
(6) The visitors on their journey home (12).1
