This week as we prepare for easter

we are looking into what it was about Jesus that made him so controversial. Why did they want to kill him in the first place.

Jesus hung around on the edges of society in the rural areas coming into the city everynow and again.

He taugh, he performed miricles and just generally upset the apple cart.

Jesus turned everything upside down.

Jesus Changed everything.

Jesus was a first century myth buster.

Some people love it when myths get busted but some people don’t want to her the truth. they prefer ideas that are comfortable and popular and feel good emotionally.

You can see this in the covid crisis. There are a bunch of myths that have gone viral.

worst one is ethanol kills the virus in iran lots of people have died drinking ethonol.

Some people really appreciate it when myths are busted. But some don’t want myths busted some.

Jesus was the biggest myth buster of all. Some people loved it, some hatted it

Jesus was a myth buster

Jesus busts the biggest myth of all that we can be self sufficient and we don’t need God.

Even in Jesus time this myth was abounding.

Even the religious leaders made up myths to convince themselves and the people that they could be without sin and please God through their own effort.

Jesus Busted the myth that you can save yourself

How are you gunna go with this. Straight up this is going to challenge our myths about how to stay safe in the world.

Do you want to just rely on yourself or are you happy to rely on Jesus!

lets have a look at luke 6:17-26

17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Encountering the Cross

Individual salvation, not just transactional done now. THis is an event we are invited to join in. Trinity exists in relationship. Enjoy the divine relationship with him. How does participation work when Jesus is on the cross, transactional and more.

What are we invited to participate in. Artistic invitation. Era 5 papers. Art is a carrier of meaning.

What is justice, not what we feel what we deserve. Divine justice. How do we participate in the meaning that God has created in the cross event and then act that out in our lives.

On the cross Jesus suffers for us and with us.

We can be changed by this or reject the invitation too hard.

Invitation to participate in the kingdom of God, died for you and participate in bringing justice as defined by God. Not justice for me, means others will miss out.

More to be experienced than can be defined. Limit just to propositional truth, miss out on the depth, art and aesthetic of dramatic life.

Divine justice and social justice do not align. Personal and individual. Do not understand. how to define justice, what is divine justice then we can see how it is expressed in and through the church in social justice. What does it look like when it is enacted.
