Jesus Provides
INTRO
God is faithful to us.
He has provided during those times we have needed him the most.
We find ourselves stuck at home and unable to worship in person together.
God is faithful- he has given us great technological advances.
We are reaching more people with our messages this Sunday than in the past.

After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.
When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

6 Provisions Jesus Offers
Fellowship (1-2)
Fellowship (1-2)
Jesus put this group together.
(just refer to it and don't read it.)
Christianity is about individual responsibility but always in relation to living within community. We do not have to do this alone.
Paul finds himself alone several times in his life. What does he do with that time? He writes letters to the church.
Many of you are finding yourself alone during this pandemic. Know that we all long to be back together.
We are the most fulfilled as believers when we are with other Christians, living as part of the Body of Christ.
Using your gifts to fulfill your role.
Purpose (3)
Purpose (3)
Peter had lost his purpose.
had no idea what to do so he went out to do what he knew.
Realize- he may have enjoyed fishing but it was not considered a sport. This was his occupation.
Working to accomplish anything outside of Christ is a waste of time.
Jesus is reminding Peter what he had called him to accomplish.
Fisher of men
On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

Power (4-6)
Power (4-6)
They worked all night under their own power and caught nothing.
With Jesus they filled the nets.
Power comes from Jesus when we abide with him
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
When Jesus ascended to the Father he told the church to do nothing until he sent the Holy Spirit.
We must make sure that everything we do is for and with Christ.
First time the nets tore. They caught more than they could handle the first time. This time they were part of a bigger miracle.
Relationship (7-10)
Relationship (7-10)
There was nothing Peter wanted more than to be with Jesus.
The fish were meaningless once he realized he could be with Jesus.
- ALWAYS
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
fellowship with Him.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Jesus came to them. They weren't looking for him or even patiently waiting for him.
Jesus didn't need their fish.
Jesus invited them to bring what they had and join him.
They only had what Jesus helped them to catch.
Fellowship around the table.
Theme throughout John.
“recline at table” - not used here but idea is here.
Rest (11-12a)
Rest (11-12a)
Rest and food
They worked all night. They were hungry.
How is rest a priority-
It was modeled by God at creation.
It was a big part of the Law.
Promises us rest in the future.
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”
Maybe part of what is going on in our world is God forcing us to rest.
Truth (12b-14)
Truth (12b-14)
They had not doubt who Jesus was.
Experiencing God - God speaks to us through
“God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal himself, His purposes, ad His ways.”- Blackaby
Truth is more than just information. Truth is a person- Jesus.
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
God reveals himself to us.
“For the Lord God does nothing
without revealing his secret
to his servants the prophets.
We know God because of Jesus.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide us in Truth.
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
We have the Word of God to reveal this truth to us.
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
CONCLUSION
God’s Word makes it clear why we need Jesus.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Jesus will meet every need in your life. Will you accept Him today?
