Have you ever wondered at the irony of calling the Friday before Easter Good? That's when they beat Him, that's when they mocked and spit on Him, that's when they crucified Him. That's when He paid the price for us. That's why it is Good Friday. Not because of what happened to Him but because of what happens to us because of it.
We tend to really focus on the beating and the mocking.
I remember once in my “BC” years. I was in an argument and someone spit on me. I do not ever remember being so enraged in my entire life.
I was so completely offended.
Can you imagine the strength it would take not to immediately destroy everyone after that?
You spit on people that you have absolute disdain for. You have to hate the person or have no regard at all for them even being human, let alone the fact that he was God’s son.
We sometimes think of ourselves as the one who drove the nails.
What if you were the one who spit on HIm?
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Because He was willing to die on Friday, Sunday’s deliverance made available to each of us. Someone had to die.
It would either be Him or us. He chose Himself.
What more could we ask of a savior?
