Reason For Our Hope
Mark 15:25-37
Mark 16.1-7
Introduction:
No morning of the year brings the feeling of hope and encouragement to the heart like Resurrection morning.
And, none would question that we need hope in the midst of the challenges of life!
Quote – Psychologist John Clever, “The main emotion of the adult American who had all the advantages of wealth, education, and culture is disappointment.”
Yet when Jesus arose from the grave, “He planted the only durable rumor of hope amid the widespread despair of a hopeless world.”
The resurrection is God’s “Amen!” to Christ’s statement, “It is finished.”
—S.
Lewis Johnson
Now, I am aware that many question the validity of the resurrection.
I.

His heart of forgiveness
Note-forgiveness begins in the heart.
Forgiveness is not given because the object is worth it, forgiveness is given because as Christian’s we value being right with God more than we value holding a grudge!
A Sunday school teacher had just concluded her lesson and wanted to make sure she had made her point.
She said, “Can anyone tell me what you must do before you can obtain forgiveness of sin?”
There was a short pause and then, from the back of the room, a small boy spoke up.
“Sin,” he said.

Note – He showed Himself alive by many infallible proofs – over 15 post resurrection appearances.
A. The Resurrection Proves the Deity of Christ-Jesus Christ is God!!
Note – Had He not kept this promise then He would have invalidated all the other promises.
After Mary Magdalene left the tomb (John 20:17–18) there is no evidence that any believer ever returned to it.
Furthermore, there is no Gospel evidence that any of the enemies of Jesus ever visited the tomb.
His enemies did not go because they were afraid it was empty.
Jesus’ friends did not return to the tomb because they knew it was empty!

Since He has kept all of those promises then we can rely on Him keeping His other promises!!
A. The Promise of His Second Coming
Both the Old and New Testaments are filled with promises of the Second Coming of Christ.
There are 1,845 references to it in the Old Testament, and a total of seventeen Old Testament books give it prominence.
Of the 260 chapters in the entire New Testament, there are 318 references to the Second Coming, or one out of 30 verses.
Twenty-three of the 27 New Testament books refer to this great event.
The four missing books include three which are single-chapter letters written to individual persons on a particular subject, and the fourth is Galatians which does imply Christ’s coming again.
For every prophecy on the First Coming of Christ, there are 8 on Christ’s Second Coming.
Be Ready
The Lord wants us to live all the time as if today would be our last.
I believe it was John Wesley who was asked at one time, “What would you do if you knew that tonight you would die?”

Now Christ is seeking Peter out to offer forgiveness!!
Conclusion:
Have you experienced the power of the Cross and the empty tomb?
You can know the joy of sins forgiven and a home in Heaven if you trust Christ today.
You can know the joy of renewed fellowship if you return to Christ today.
It would be better to have never been born, than to die without Christ.!
I am saved by a Risen Saviour!
Am I living and serving as if He were still dead?
IS THERE EVIDENCE IN MY LIFE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE?
