The Scriptures are True!

Look at the Word...
The Old Testament has been pointing us to Jesus...
Isaiah 53:11–12 ESV
11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
The Gospels have been telling us about Jesus
Matthew 16:21 ESV
21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
Matthew 17:22–23 ESV
22 As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.
The rest of the New Testament has been pointing us back to Jesus
1 Corinthians 1:17–18 ESV
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Romans 5:6–11 ESV
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

An Invitation to Test

Jesus gives an invitation to the disciples to test the truth..
Matthew 28:9 ESV
9 And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.
Luke 24:39 ESV
39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”
John 20:27 ESV
27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”
We need to be willing to “test” Jesus..To ask Him the question, “Are you real?”, “Are you who you say you are?”
Our Savior is big enough to handle those questions
Then Jesus shares a meal
Luke 24:42–43 ESV
They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate before them.
John 21:12–13 ESV
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish.
They were able to see him, touch him, be close with him
To say I need to see you, I need to touch or be touched by you, I need to encounter you…those are pleas that Jesus I think desires to answer.
Not just to ask Jesus for something....but to ask him for someone!

The Amazing Change

At the crucifixion there was sorrow and despair amongst the disciples
How do we know....Peter’s denial....followers standing from a distance…someone else retrieved Jesus’ body
After the resurrection there there was new life
They were stubborn to believe at first…there was doubt
After they were able to test it…be with Jesus they never doubted again
They hearts started to beat with a new life…a new life that comes with the resurrection of Jesus Christ
After Jesus’ ascension Scripture tells us they:
Luke 24:52–53 ESV
52 And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple blessing God.
Circumstances did not change…the religious leaders still hated Jesus....the Roman Government was still in charge…actually things got tougher.
These transformations are not the result of surface beliefs…but in a an authentic encounter with the risen Savior!
Romans 6:4 ESV
4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
In Jesus’ death there was was forgiveness and justification…In Jesus’ resurrection there was new life…new authority…new power to overcome
With his resurrection we are able to LIVE in spite of the situation around us, because of the freedom he give us.

The Birth of the Church

The church is birthed because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ
Where the rubber meets the road
Because of their belief they obeyed, waited and prayed… Because of Jesus’ resurrection it opened the door for another.
This open door, with their obedience, made way for the Holy Spirit to be poured out
We see the transformation of a new life take root
The people gathered because of the word
The word that was preached was the resurrection of Jesus Christ
Those that received the word were baptized and added to the family
By the boldness and the impact we see that this was more than some intellectual exercise
Acts 2:41 ESV
41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
Not because of some major miracle, but by the work of the Holy Spirit that empowered the apostles to preach the Word.
In that moment people sensed the change..the presence..the truth

Jesus then…Jesus now..

We have access to the same Jesus Christ
He was the Savior then…He is our Savior now
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
We have the ability have new life with Christ
It is not an intellectual exercise, but a surrender of the heart
To forgive us from our sins
There is power in forgiveness!
To free us from from the costs
To give us a new life
To transform us and the community around us
I could read scriptures all day long that talk about this…and you should read. But look at the lives around you that have changed by a life lived in Christ....Look at your life.
