Welcome & Announcements

Annual Meeting Rescheduled for May 3rd, providing that we are able to meet in person. If the public gathering ban is not lifted at that point, we will send out reports and an agenda and work to accomplish the business meeting remotely, through emails. Lord willing, we will be able to meet together by the May 3rd date. Board Chairs, should begin writing annual reports and send them to Michelle no later than May 1st.

The plan for next Sunday is to go back to having a service online again.

Prayer Meeting- Making a concerted effort to be in prayer Sunday Evenings (6:30-7:30) in our own homes, praying for our country and the world, during this pandemic. Wisdom for leaders and healthcare workers. Doris, Jen Brandes’ grandmother ill with Coronavirus, her grandfather and her father who are quarantined together.

My Aunt Claire has been hospitalized with Pneumonia, negative on Coronavirus.

John 20:1–10 ESV

1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went back to their homes.

Do you ever compete with your friends? Do you ever race each other? I’ve seen some of you play soccer or basketball and I’ve seen just about everyone of you play games at Calvary Kids or run around the room downstairs. Who thinks they would have beat their friends to see if the tomb was empty? Who would have been brave enough to go in to inspect whether Jesus’ body was still there?

Fast, Bold, Curious- Believe! Jesus Is Alive!!!

One last thing to notice- Jesus folded the linens they had wrapped his body in. He cleaned the room, even when it was just a tomb. So when your mom or dad, tells you to pick up your clothes and fold them, they know what they are talking about.

Resurrection Life-

Psalm 16:1–11 ESV

1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. 2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” 3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. 5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. 6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. 7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8 I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

We are preserved and protected. The preservation and refuge under the wings of the Lord God are insurmountable.

vs 1. David recognized his need to be preserved and protected. He Trusted the Lord, Who is able to Preserve Us- David knew this despite all that he went through during his life.

In Contrast the sorrows of the wicked who chase after other false gods will multiply, rather than dissipate or be avoided.

God is our Chosen Portion and Lot

The word “chosen portion” signifies one’s personal provision of food, one’s individual sustenance for the day. The Daily Bread!

The word Lot here is different than the word used of casting lots. This term “lot” is referring to the psalmist’s life, every intricate detail of his life environment and circumstances.

Beautiful Inheritance, Counsel, Instruction and Stability.

Reason for Rejoicing

Glad heart, whole being rejoices, my “flesh dwells secure!

Whole Being rejoices! Every single aspect of David rejoices and is made glad. His mind, body and soul are full of rejoicing securely. Why is this? What gave David all these things, these things that are ours to be had equally so, or possibly even more so? Well look at

Psalm 16:10 ESV

10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.

FOR. . .

He will not abandon my soul to Sheol. . .

Nor let His Holy One see corruption (decay, destruction).

Psalm 16:10 ESV

10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.

Acts 2:27 ESV

27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption.

Acts 13:35 ESV

35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, “ ‘You will not let your Holy One see corruption.’

If David was able to recognize this marvelous truth many years prior to the coming of the Messiah, we too can place our faith and trust in the resurrection life.

Romans 10:9–11 ESV

9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

This is our promise for eternity, and it is a promise for us right now, today. This great inheritance, which David spoke of is both now and not yet. We have the Lord as our refuge, our strength, who blesses

One last point from Psalm 16.

Look at verse 8

Psalm 16:8 ESV

8 I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Notice the position here. The Lord is before David, always. Notice the Lord is at David’s right hand.

Now Look at Ps 16:11

Psalm 16:11 ESV

11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Now, it says David is at the Lord’s right hand. Wait a second. If the Lord is at David’s right hand, how can David be at the Lord’s right hand? It is only possible at they are facing one another.

I want to encourage you today. Make certain that the Lord is ever before you. Keep Him at your right hand.

If you do, all these things that David has claimed to be his, are not exclusively his, we too can have this Resurrection Life! Right here, right now, with much more to come. Already and Not yet!
