HOOK

In our continuing study of the gospel of John we came across the theology of salvation— the doctrine of God’s saving grace
Previously we discovered from the writings of John the answers to “how may I be saved?”— we learned that to be saved— one must be “born again”— born of water and spirit
And then we asked ourselves “who may be saved?”— some of you said that “everyone” will be saved— however, the Bible says— that is false—
Salvation is by grace [not by works] through Jesus— clearly, salvation only belongs to those who believe— many wouldn’t agree with this, but that is what the Bible clearly says about it!— For a long period of time I also subscribed to the belief that we are all children of God and we will all be saved
I lived through this deception— and as the saying goes, “ignorance of the law excuses no one.”— it was only when I became serious with my quest to find the truth that my eyes of faith were opened— and that “truth” can only be found in the Word of God
God was very unequivocal— In [the core of God’s message to mankind], it is very clear that there is a consequential result to non-belief in Jesus Christ— Let’s take a look

BOOK

John 3:16–18 NIV
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
' Juan 3:16-18

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON
I’d like to make it clear to everybody that the word “world” is used in the Bible with interchangeable meaning— literally the planet— and alternately the people in it— in this instance the original Greek word is “kosmos”— meaning th people
This verse presents concise summary of the gospel message— it is a remarkable statement depicting divine care for the entire world— not just His chosen [elected] people
The name of our church was actually derived from statement— Agape is a noun that means the “unconditional love” of God— the verb [action word] for it is Agapo— to love uncoditionally
The love of God is not the consequence of your loveliness— but of the sublime truth that “God is love” period— it is not what you do, it is not how lovable you are— but simply God loves you, and that’s it! —
1 John 4:16 NIV
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
;16
FOR GOD DID NOT SEND HIS SON INTO THE WORLD CONDEMN THE WORLD
Clearly, Jesus came to the world not reject but to reconcile
Whoever believes in him is not condemned
WHOEVER DOES NOT BELIEVE STANDS CONDEMNED ALREADY
That answers our question for today— We need a Savior, otherwise we are condemned— but wait! I thought God’s love is “unconditional”— that he loves me whatever I do with my life— Yes! and that’s the reason why He gave his one and only son to reconcile you with him because he loves you
Romans 6:23 NIV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
R
John said, condemnation is a consequence of unbelief in the name of Jesus
This leads us to another question— What do we need to believe about Jesus to avoid condemnation?— and that is what we’re going to look into tomorrow— so don’t be absent!
