He was King

1 Samuel 15:27–28 ESV
As Samuel turned to go away, Saul seized the skirt of his robe, and it tore. And Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.
1 sam 15:27-
1 Samuel 16:1 ESV
The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”
1 Samuel 16:12–13 ESV
And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
Probably ~15 years before being crowned
Not unlike Prince John sitting on King Richard’s throne in Robin Hood
So too, Jesus was already King; even when it was not widely accepted
Jesus was king when:
The wise men visited in
He was baptized in
He withstood Satan’s temptations in
He taught the true nature of the Kingdom of God in ch5-7 and in all His parables
He called and appointed 12 apostles
He performed miracles and healings, even when the religious crowds tried to say He was of the devil
In when he rides into Jerusalem like a conquering King
He wept over the coming destruction of the Temple and Jerusalem itself
He stood wrongly accused before the council and before Pilate
He was stripped and beaten
He was nailed to a cross
He died, hanging under a sign calling Him King of the Jews
When we look beyond the single book of Matthew, we see even more clearly that there has never been time when Jesus was not rightly King. For God’s purposes, many have sat and are sitting in seats of power, but it never has competed with the sovereign authority of Jesus.

He Is King

Matthew 21:8–9 ESV
Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
Hosanna - had become (and is) an expression of praise, but began as a cry for salvation
Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison
Revelation 5:1–5 ESV
Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”

Who gave this fallen angel the key (symbolizing power / authority)?

and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
Revelation 1:17–18 ESV
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
Job 2:9–10 ESV
Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
job 2:
No matter what struggle or difficulty or loss you are experiencing, it is NOT evidence that The Lord is unaware, disinterested, or unable to do other; He remains in control.
“So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: "I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God, and where He is there I shall be also!” - Martin Luthe
And even while there is often a bitterness to His providence, yet we know that every moment of suffering is working an immeasurable weight of glory; some experienced now, the rest into eternity!

For one Moment

The focus is NOT on the crowd
The focus IS on Jesus
The worship is right and amenable
