Wives, husbands and the ordained order of the family
Paul indicated that spiritual harmony begin in the lives of Christians who are commited and submitted to the Lordship of Christ
10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
Through the Gift of Marriage comes another gift, the wedded couple becomes parents another gracious gift
Relate the current situation
Eph 6:1-
Order in the home
Order in the home
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

5 Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. 9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.
The Christian home is the place where God’s grace and transforming power is displayed. The Church is a family of families. When the Christian homes are out of order and have deviated from the plan of GOD the church will suffer as a whole. The spread of the Gospel will have no power and the church will not be able to fulfill the purposes of God.
In verse one there is a direct call to the christian children. We must observe what GOD does here.
Children were present in the assembly. Families attended public worship together. Parents explained no doubt the word at home
The Apostle regards them as belonging to the church
Paul gives four reasons for them to obey
THEY ARE CHRISTIANS in the Lord The theme of the entire section is Eph 5:21
When a person becomes a Christian, they are regenerate.
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Here is harmony in the home: the wife submits to the husband “as unto Christ”; the husband loves his wife “even as Christ also loved the church”; and the children obey “in the Lord.”
2. Obedience is right
Right- refers to the relations both given in nature and ordained by Divine law
There is an order in nature and God ordained it. There is a right way and a wrong way. Parents have an obligation to instruct and show their off spring the right way. Parents have more experience, knowledge and wisdom than the child. We see in nature with animals the young following after what is taught by the parents for survival.
3. OBEDIENCE IS COMMANDED PAUL cites the word of God here with the fifth commandment
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
16 “ ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
This command is now being applied to the NT believer. This doesn’t mean we are under the law as a means to be right with GOD.
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—
The righteousness of the Law, the principles of the moral Law, which displays the holiness of God is still very much needed to be obeyed.
To honor our parents means much more than to simply obey them.
4. OBEDIENCE BRINGS BLESSINGS
The fifth commandment has a promise attached to it
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
ex
This was for the jews who would enter into Canaan, but the HS through Paul here nows applies this promise to believers today.
Christian children who honor their parents can expect two blessings. It will be will with them, and they will live long on the earth.
This doesn’t mean children who die young died because they dishonored their parents..
Paul is stating a principle here:
When Christian children obey and honor their parents they will escape and avoid a good deal of sin and danger. This will def help them avoid things that could threaten or shorten their lives.
SIN ALWAYS ROBS US and OBEDIENCE ALWAYS ENRICHES US
Life is not measured only by time, life is measured by quality of experience

The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Twelve: Living the Lordship of Christ (Ephesians 6:1–9)
So, the child must learn early to obey father and mother, not only because they are his parents, but also because God has commanded it to be so. Disobedience to parents is rebellion against God. The sad situation in homes today is the result of rejecting God’s Word
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,

1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

By nature, a child is selfish, but in the power of the Holy Spirit, a child can learn to obey his parents and glorify God
