24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8 Then they remembered his words.

1 - Where to look for Jesus?

We saw some funny sketches earlier didn’t we.
Debbie was looking for her bike.
Where should he have looked?
Yes, in the shed or the garage.
But he looked in the wardrobe!
We normally know where to look for things don’t we.
But
And in our bible reading -
the ladies in the story went to look for Jesus!
He had died, so he should have been in the tomb - where his body was put!
But when they got to the tomb,
the huge stone that was across the entrance, was already moved!
And there was an angel from God - waiting there.
They must have been a scared,
And confused!
but the angel asks them a funny question.
Luke 24:5 NIV
In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
Luke
You’re looking in the wrong place said the angel.
It’s like looking in the fridge for your money,
under the sofa for your car
or up a tree for your neighbours door bell!
And not only that, but he tells them that it was like looking in the ??????? for the ???????
The women in the story had forgotten what Jesus had told them before he died!
Luke 24:6–8 NIV
He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.
luke 24 6-
They should have expected Jesus to be alive!
Jesus - who always told the truth,
had promised he would rise again.
They were looking in the wrong place!
Jesus is Alive!
Adults, and kids.
So many of us look in the wrong place for Jesus today.
Or don’t even look for him at all!
He’s just some guy who lived 2000 years ago-
taught some nice stuff,
Jesus
casued a stir,
had a bestselling biography written about him. (the bible)
Gave us a few things to think about
some good moral!
But NO!
Jesus claimed to be God.
And he said we must all find him - look for him!
Believe in Him!
He said anyone who doesn’t believe in him will face the right judgement of God.
But becasue he loves us.
He, Jesus came to die in our place - to take the judgement we deserve.
So finding Jesus is really important!
Jesus is not stuck in history, and now dead and buried.
That’s why as CHristians we have an empty Cross!
Jesus isn’t dead!
He’s alive!
And the place to look for him,
is where we’re looking right now.
In his Bible
You can meet him in his bible - the factually acturate book of histroy.
You can find firgiveness and love in his death on the cross
You can find certain hope because he is Risen!
Jesus rose again!
Appeared to hundreds of people,
He promised he would, and he did.
He ascended to heaven and is with God the Father.
He is king and Ruler of his people.
He is not dead!
He is risen!
Don’t look into the bible for Jesus - as if it’s a story that once was.
Look for Jesus in the bible
and you will find he is Alive today!
Don’t think of him as a man who died 2000 years ago.
Think of him as the Risen and lviing Lord of all!

2 - How to find Jesus?

We now know to look for Jesus in the Bible.
And the bible tells us how to find him.
Jesus isn’t literally inside the bible!
That would be funny!
He is Alive - he is with God, and he is with those that believe in him!
The bible is like a map if you like -
it shows us where Jesus is.
So, how do we actually find him, or believe in him?
Now we are looking for Jesus,
the question is - how do we really find him!
Luke 24:46–47 NIV
He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Now -
repentance for the forgiveness of sins - that’s the key.
That’s what the bible says we must preach about,
talk about
tell other people about!
Becasue that is how we truely find Jesus!
What does that mean though?
‘repentance for the forgiveness of sins’
Repentance means to say we are sorry to God, and to stop ignoring or disobeying him.
We trun back to him,
Like this sign!
That means first of all we must admit we have done something wrong!
You can’t say sorry to a parent,
or friend,
or spouse if you don’t think you have done anything wrong!
Or if you do, It wouldn’t mean anything.
But we have all hurt God in many ways.
God, created this world!
He created this world!
He is the one with power over everything.
Even death as we remember today especially!
But none of us - not even the disciples and the women who knew and loved Jesus!
Not even they paid him all the prasie he was due!
The looked for him in the wrong palce!
They didn’t believe he would rise again!
And we don’t always praise Jesus the risen king as we should.
We havne’t alwasy believed in him,
We havne’t obeyed him always,
We don’t live for him -
we instead often do things for ourselves.
Now -
we’ve talked about where to find Jesus
In the bible - living and active.
Becasue Jesus is risen adn reigning now! and for alwasy.
And that really is enough reason to look for him, and to want to know him.
He deserves it.
He created this world!
He is the one with power over everythign.
even death - as we particularily remmeber today!
BUt none of us - not even the disciples and the women who knew and loved Jesus at his death!
Not even they paid him all the prasie he was due!
The looked for him in the rowrng palce!
They didn’t believe he would rise again!
And we don’t always praise Jesus the risen king as we should.
But the extraordinary thing is.
So maybe it’s better to hide from Jesus!
Many people in the world do that - either knowingly, deliberately, or often without realising it!
But then we face the judgement we deserve - becasue Jesus hasn’t taken that sa
But the extraordinary thing is.
Despite the fact that he deserves all of our prasie, and lives -
and that we so often don’t give him what he deserves.
He still died for us so that we would be forgiven!
Luke 24:46–47 NIV
He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:46 NIV
He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
-47
the question is - how do we really find him!
- becasue he wants to show us forgiveness of sins!
He wants us to rise to new life with him when he returns!
He wants to share a glorious eternity with us!
And all we need do is Repent.
Say sorry.
Turn back to him.
If you and your familiy don’t know Jesus -
If you haven’t found him,
Then I hope you have found him today.
You’ve seen him in the bible,
You’ve seen him as the RIsen King!.
And now you've found him by simply repenting of your sin.
saying sorry all the times and ways in which we havne’t lived with him as ruler, as king.
Even as christians,
Despite knowing Jesus,
We so often fail to live with him as ruler.
And so we should also repentant for those times!
The greatest way to honour the risen Jesus as ruler and king
on this Easter Day when we remeber his resurection,
Is to do the thing he desires for all nations, all people
Repent.
Let’s do that now...

Confession

We’ve looked for him
Forgivness for the repentant.
Now we’ve foiund him in repentance.
So,
We’ve looked for Jesus in the Bible.
We’ve found him in repentace
Now what do we do?

3 - What to do when you find Jesus?

This one is simple,
Enjoy Jesus,
Show picture
And tell others about him!
remmeber v47
Luke 24:47 NIV
and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Becasue Jesus Rose again -
His people will preach, or simply tell,
eveyone about this great news!
Jesus is Alive!
Repent and believe!
So all can be saved!
Easter day is such a great reminder that
JEsus is Alive
We can find him in repentance
And we can enjoy him forvever, and tell others about him,
Becasue he is Alive!
Enjoy, Him
That means a few things:
Life of thankful repentacene
Life living as best we can for Him as our king.
And a life of preach repentnace to the rest of the world.
Tell evryone about him.
Next time you’re out clapping for the NHS,
Put some thought into also how we can spread the good News of Jesus.
FOr He is RISEN!
