Introduction

“Nothing is so much to be feared as fear”
-Henry David Thoreau
In her book “Joy from Fear” by clinical psychologist, Author, advocate, and fear specialist , Carla Marie Manley, phD
In the midst of fear, we humans, either exhibit “Flight, Fight, or Freeze” behavior
(Let me explain this a little bit…)
“Transformational fear is the process of embracing constructive fear to become free of the bullying force of destructive fear.”
She goes on the discuss a patient by the name of Harry
“Flight, Fight, or Freeze”
Harry learns through therapy that he could turn towards his fears instead of running from them. He learned that his fears contained vital information that would allow him to heal.

Our current fears

The fears of one another which the Cornavirus has produced- both real and unreal
My experience going to a Dunkin’ Donuts and someone coughing as I was exiting the building
Standing in the long check out lines within grocery stores.
Using hand sanitizers when I enter and exit business establishments
The inordinate usage of face masks and plastic gloves
inordinate- not within proper or reasonable limits; immoderate; excessive:
Washing machine and dryer deliverers able to drop off, haul away old machines, but unable to pick-up return
Deliverer looking at me pitifully and providing me a stack of plastic gloves for my car and home

Transition To The Body

At The Cross
Words: Isaac Watts (1707)
Alas! and did my Savior bleed And did my Sovereign die? Would He devote that sacred head For sinners such as I? Refrain At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day!
Thy body slain, sweet Jesus, Thine— And bathed in its own blood— While the firm mark of wrath divine, His Soul in anguish stood.
Was it for crimes that I had done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity! grace unknown! And love beyond degree!
Well might the sun in darkness hide And shut his glories in, When Christ, the mighty Maker died, For man the creature’s sin.
Thus might I hide my blushing face While His dear cross appears, Dissolve my heart in thankfulness, And melt my eyes to tears.
But drops of grief can ne’er repay The debt of love I owe: Here, Lord, I give my self away ’Tis all that I can do.
Words: Isaac Watts (1707)
