Expectation is defined as believing that something is going to happen or believing that something should be a certain way.
We all have expectations that is what comes with relationships.
We are either in a personal relationship, business relationship, friendship relationship or all three at the same time. But there is an expectation.
There is an expectation of yourself and there is an expectation of others. I expect something from you, you expect something from. The success of this expectation is determined whether or not our expectations are being filled.
Marriage
Friendship
Work relationships
Ministry relationships
They all come with an expectation.
Mary Magdalene had such an expectation.

Luke 8:1–3 NKJV
Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.

Travelling light

(8:1–3)

Luke gives us a glimpse of Jesus and the Twelve as they travel through towns and villages. They are accompanied by women whom Jesus has healed—notably Mary from Magdala, whom he rescued from demon possession. Some of the women are well connected or have money of their own, and they help to support the group.

After her experience of being rescued from demon possession Mary Magdalene commits her life to Jesus and becomes a follower.
Mary Magdalene new expectation is that her life would be better with Jesus Christ then without Him.
Mary Magdalene becomes apart of this movement as Jesus Christ to town to town and to village to village.
Mary Magdalene financially supports Jesus ministry also.

Matthew 27:55–56 NKJV
And many women who followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him, were there looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
Matthew 27:60–61 NKJV
and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.
Matt 27:
Mary Magdalene has had evil spirits cast out of her by Jesus, she has followed Him to many places watching Him heal the sick, cast out demon and restore people.
: 55-56
Mary Magdalene witness this brutality being inflicted on Jesus. No one has ever survived the crucifixion.
So your expectation began to change. They thought they would have Jesus forever.
Now your expectations change.
You believe He’s going to die, no way He can survive this. He does die and buried in a tomb with a stone sealing the entrance to the tomb and Mary Magdalene witnesses all of this.
Hope is finished.
Early the next day while it was still dark Mary Magdalene goes to the tum only to find the stone rolled away and the entrance unblocked.
Mary Magdalene goes to find Simon and the other disciples.
Mary Magdalene, Simon, John and the other disciple return to the tomb to investigate what Mary Magdalene said. They went into the tomb and found grave clothes but no body. When John saw how the clothes were placed he didn’t think it was grave robbers he believed Jesus had risen, but didn't say anything.
Peter and the beloved disciple return home. Mary remains at the tomb (20:10–18). She weeps. Her tears are of grief and indignation. Mary Magdalene expectation is to find a dead Jesus. Her master has been put to death before her eyes, and now his body has disappeared.

Looking into the tomb, Mary sees two angels. They ask her why she is weeping—as though they know something she doesn’t. Turning round, she sees a man—perhaps the gardener—standing nearby. But it isn’t the gardener …
The stranger’s questions are to the point: ‘Why are you crying?’ and, ‘Who is it you are looking for?’ Mary’s eyes are clouded by tears and her heart blind with unbelief. Jesus is the last person she expects to see. She doesn’t recognize him until he speaks her name.
When your expectations are so small that it can’t see a great God standing right in front of you.
We can’t be locked in the old church way. We got to be able to see God.
New technology, new media methods....where are you God.
Don’t just see death!
Isn’t good to no that if i fail to see God, He will still call me by name, because i was looking for Him.
The risen Jesus greets Mary by name—
The risen Jesus greets Mary by name—
In Luke’s Gospel, the risen Jesus joins two disciples on their way to Emmaus. Although their hearts are warmed by his teaching of the scriptures, they only recognize him when he breaks bread ().

When Mary realizes that this is Jesus, she exclaims, ‘Rabboni’—the Aramaic word for ‘greatest teacher’, or ‘my teacher and God’. She wants to hold fast to him, to prevent him ever going away again. He gently tells her that he is returning to his Father. Just as he laid down his life, he is now taking it up again.
Jesus sends Mary to tell the others. God is their Father too, and Jesus is their brother for ever.
