Good MOrning and HAPPY EASTER --
HE IS RISEN!!!!
I am so thankful today that I serve the ONLY GOD who prophesied He would die and raise again, and then DID IT!!!!
We have spent the last month or two looking at the MIghty Things JEsus did in His ministry on earth, things that carry forward into our lives and the church today...
Mighty Things — our Liberator from sin bringing forgiveness and freedom from the law of Moses
— GIver of PEACE
--- PROVIDER
--- HEALER
--- ON Good Friday - Our SACRIFICE
However, NONE of these things would matter, NONE would continue on in our world today if it was not for this day we are celebrating...
MIGHTY THING --- RESURRECTION ---- OUR RESURRECTED SAVIOR!!!
Had Jesus not risen from the DEAD - the rest of it would have just been HISTORY instead of CURRENT EVENT!!!
1 Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.
2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it.
3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.
4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.
5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.
7 And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”
Matthew 28:1-7
No other God in all of history has an empty grave! NONE except Jesus… but let’s look at a few things that made this such a MIGHTY THING - THE MIGHTIEST OF ALL BRINGING CREDIBILITY TO ALL THE OTHER MIGHTY THINGS!!!
1. MIGHTY CLAIM
1. MIGHTY CLAIM
The fact that Jesus not only raised from the Dead, but that HE FORETOLD that HE would rise again is AMAZING!
10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.
19 O Lord, do not stay far away! You are my strength; come quickly to my aid!
20 Save me from the sword; spare my precious life from these dogs.
21 Snatch me from the lion’s jaws and from the horns of these wild oxen.
.
5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.
7 He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.
8 Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people.
9 He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.
10 But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands.
19-21
Jesus Himself said He would rise again...
21 From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.
Matt 16.21
39 But Jesus replied, “Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign; but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.
40 For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.
17 “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again.
18 No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”
In addition to this Jesus told us when He had called Lazarus who was dead for 4 days to come out of the grave, and He did wrapped in graveclothes...
25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.
IN fact - that claim He made was so well known, that is why the Chief Priests DEMANDED PILATE to SEAL THE TOMB and PLACE GUARDS at it - not just a few guards, but a host of them...
62 The next day, on the Sabbath, the leading priests and Pharisees went to see Pilate.
63 They told him, “Sir, we remember what that deceiver once said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise from the dead.’
64 So we request that you seal the tomb until the third day. This will prevent his disciples from coming and stealing his body and then telling everyone he was raised from the dead! If that happens, we’ll be worse off than we were at first.”
Matt 27.
Truly - HIS CLAIMS WERE MIGHTY!!!! Who else would make such claims, and if they did they would be considered mad as they would have no power to back those claims up...
Jesus would have been considered mad, had He not backed those claims up with my next thought...
MIGHTY WORK
MIGHTY WORK
Jesus had to back this up with the actual WORK of RISING AGAIN!!!!
4 and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
JOhn 20.11
11 Mary was standing outside the tomb crying, and as she wept, she stooped and looked in.
12 She saw two white-robed angels, one sitting at the head and the other at the foot of the place where the body of Jesus had been lying.
13 “Dear woman, why are you crying?” the angels asked her. “Because they have taken away my Lord,” she replied, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”
14 She turned to leave and saw someone standing there. It was Jesus, but she didn’t recognize him.
15 “Dear woman, why are you crying?” Jesus asked her. “Who are you looking for?” She thought he was the gardener. “Sir,” she said, “if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and get him.”
16 “Mary!” Jesus said. She turned to him and cried out, “Rabboni!” (which is Hebrew for “Teacher”).
17 “Don’t cling to me,” Jesus said, “for I haven’t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”
18 Mary Magdalene found the disciples and told them, “I have seen the Lord!” Then she gave them his message.
IT IS WHAT IT IS ---- JESUS IS THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE
Because HE RAISED FROM THE DEAD - HE CONQUERED DEATH AND HELL — which was the curse that came upon man in the Garden of Eden when man sinned...
All condemned to die.. both body and spirit...
JEsus physically was raised from the dead… so now those who die with faith in Christ go directly to heaven to be with the GOd the Father… instead of descending into the grave
The paradise side of SHEOL - the grave has been emptied by the WORK OF CHRIST...
8 Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.
One day, when Jesus returns, He will raise us physically from the dead, and our bodies and spirits will unite and we will be fully restored as the LORD ORIGINALLY CREATED US
51 But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!
52 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.
53 For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.
54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.
This is the WONDERFUL and MIGHTY WORK OF CHRIST --- HE FREED US FROM DEATH AND THE GRAVE!!!
3. MIGHTY WITNESS
3. MIGHTY WITNESS
IN any trial, any prosecution is the evaluation of evidence!!!
THe more eyewitnesses to an account, the greater the evidence for the truth!!!
THERE was A MIGHTY WITNESS to the RESURRECTED CHRIST!!!
9 So they rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven disciples—and everyone else—what had happened.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened.
11 But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn’t believe it.
THe women and Peter who discovered the empty tomb, the angel, the folded gravecloth...
Luke 24
Then there were two disciples walking on the road to EMMAUS
13 That same day two of Jesus’ followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem.
14 As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened.
15 As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them.
The other disciples...
35 Then the two from Emmaus told their story of how Jesus had appeared to them as they were walking along the road, and how they had recognized him as he was breaking the bread.
36 And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. “Peace be with you,” he said.
37 But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost!
38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt?
39 Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.”
40 As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.
Luke 24.35
To Doubting Thomas
24 One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came.
25 They told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”
26 Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. “Peace be with you,” he said.
27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”
28 “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.
29 Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”
HE even appeared to over 500 witnesses on the day He ascended back to heaven...
3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.
4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve.
6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.
7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles.
8 Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him.
9 For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church.
3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.

JEsus appeared to Saul on the Road to Damascus
3 As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him.
4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”
5 “Who are you, lord?” Saul asked. And the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting!
6 Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
You see there is a powerful eye witness account of not just his immediate followers but hundreds of people who saw Jesus after He rose from the dead...
— he ate with them
— he talked with them
— he instructed them
How many followers of Christ - in fact all but on of the disciples - died for their faith in Christ....
Very few are willing to die for a lie, and yet hundreds and thousands have died for the cause of Christ because JESUS IS REAL...
We still have this RISEN SAVIOR
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
SO TODAY I want to ENCOURAGE YOUR HEARTS...
We have A MIGHTY RESURRECTED SAVIOR
HIS CLAIMS to RISE FROM THE DEAD WERE MIGHTY
HIS WORK TO CONQUER THE GRAVE AND DEATH WAS MIGHTY
HIS WITNESSES OF HIS RESURRECTION WERE MIGHTY
The question is WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THAT???
TODAY our wold is still shut down - the entire world - from a pandemic --- I do not think that God brought the pandemic upon the world, but I do believe He permitted it to get the attention of the world...
For the first time in this generation we see a worldwide awareness of the same THING, the SAME PROBLEM — but worldwide society has rejected CHRIST
Even in the CHURCH there has been a deep departure from the TRUTH JEsus taught us to reject SIN and pursue a life separated from sin and following after CHrist...
THIS MIGHTY SAVIOR wants us to TURN OUR LIVES OVER TO HIM COMPLETELY
Doesn’t a mighty JESUS deserve a MIGHTY COMMITMENT from HIS PEOPLE???? FROM THOSE WHO WILL FOLLOW HIM?
1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins.
2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.
3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much,
5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
JEsus wants us to BE ALIVE IN HIM --- living the old sinful man behind....
LET’s US MAKE A MIGHTY COMMITMENT TO CHRIST TODAY!
