Introduction

How did 12 men, later 120 followers in the upper room grow to 2.3 billion people who claim faith in Jesus Christ?
1/3 of the world
1 out of 3 people
The Christian Church is largest organization on the planet. Larger than USA, Europe and China combined.
It speaks more languages than the United Nations and is in more nations.
No other event has impacted the world like the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
Jesus never composed a note, but there are more songs written about Him than anyone every in the history of the world!
Jesus never drew any pictures or made any sculptures but there is more art made about Him than any one person ever!
Jesus never built a building, but more architecture has been built in his honor than all others… churches, cathedrals, schools, orphanages, hospitals, universities...
Jesus never traveled more than 100 miles from His birthplace but you can find followers of His in every nook and cranny of this planet!
The tomb of Muhammed, Confucius, and even Moses is still occupied, but today, we celebrate that the tomb of Jesus is empty!
Why do people try to disprove the resurrection?
They forgot which tomb they put him in.
Swoon theory
Why is the resurrection of Jesus so important?
It proves that Jesus was who He said He was.
It proves that our sins are in fact forgiven.
It proves that we will be resurrected too.

Transition:

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave changed the course of human history and continues to change our lives today!
Matthew 28:1–10 NIV
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. 5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
Scripture text
3 Things the Resurrection Changes:

Our Past

We limit our understanding of salvation to Jesus death - the foundation of our forgiveness.
Romans 3:25–26 NIV
25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
rom 3.
Paul states in that like Abraham we are considered righteous because we believed in faith!
Romans 4:24–25 NIV
24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Romans 4:25 NIV
25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
By raising Jesus from the dead, God declared his satisfaction and approval of the payment Christ made on our behalf, for our sins, on the cross.
God’s approval of Christ’s substitutionary death, demonstrated in raising Jesus from the dead, is God’s declaration to us that payment has been made in full!!
Romans 6:6–11 NIV
6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Let’s consider how Jesus changed the lives of His followers. It wasn’t until after the resurrection, did they realize the full extent of God’s plan that brought them HOPE!! A hope that would later compel them to preach this Gospel with reckless abandon.
Mary Magdalene
Mark 16:9 NIV
9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.
And don’t forget Peter who denied Christ openly.
Mark 16:6–7 NIV
6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’ ”
John 21:12 NIV
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.
Mark 16.
john 21.
Jesus can redeem your past.
Romans 10:9 NIV
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Our Present

The resurrection of Jesus Christ has a way of reminding us that Jesus can change any situation.
“Friday may seem dark, but Sunday is coming”
“A lot can change in 3 days!”
The Psalmist states ()
“You have turned my mourning into dancing for me; You have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy”
Matthew 28:8–10 NIV
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
matthew 28.
I love how Jesus changes Our Present. He changes our conversations which leads to the word of God burning within our hearts with a new hope!
Jesus on the Road to Emmaus ()
Luke 24:30–35 NIV
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
luke 24.
The resurrection changes what’s important to us!
Paul later reminds us what should be of most importance to us which should in turn change the way we live our lives in the present.
Philippians 3:12 NIV
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Philippians 3:20 NIV
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
phil 3.
Philippians 3:20–21 NIV
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Our Future

Apart from the resurrection, we have no future hope!
1 Corinthians 15:12–14 NIV
12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.
Points
1 cor 15.
1 Corinthians 15:17–18 NIV
17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.
1 cor 15.
1 Corinthians 15:20 NIV
20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
1 cor 15.
I love how Paul ends his teaching on the resurrection:
1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Conclusion

Conclusion

I hope that you can see that the resurrection is not something we celebrate once a year, but it is the person who changes everything!
If you want the resurrection to change you than you need to encounter “the resurrection”, Jesus Christ of Nazareth!
Jesus said this before He raised Lazarus from the dead:
John 11:25–26 NIV
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:
The message Bible: “You don’t have to wait for the End. I am, right now, Resurrection and Life.”
We don’t just believe that “the Resurrection and the Life” can bring dead people back to life but …
Dead Hopes
Dead Dreams
Dead Relationships
Dead Marriages
Dead Families
Ephesians 1:18–20 NIV
18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
