Today is one of the best days ever

We are going to walk through Chapter 20 of Johns account of the next part of the Easter story.
So 2000 years ago, one of Jesus followers, Mary Magdalene, went to the tomb early in the morning to properly prepare Jesus body but when she got there she saw that the stone that was blocking the entrance to the tomb had been moved away.
So she ran back to see a Peter and John and she told them

“They have taken the Lord out of the tomb! We don’t know where they have put him!”

So Peter and John started running to the tomb, and John makes sure to point in his Gospel that

The other disciple ran faster than Peter. He reached the tomb first

They saw the empty tomb, the cloth that Jesus body had been wraped in was neatly folded up.
They realized that Jesus wasnt there, from the facts in front of them they knew that Jesus had come back to life, he had been resurrected, but it still didnt click that this was the thing that the whole of the Old Testament had been leading up to.
Peter and John and went home but Mary stayed behind and started crying by the empty tomb
Then two messengers from God, or Angels, appeared where Jesus body had been and they asked her

13They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said. “I don’t know where they have put him.”

Then she turned around and saw Jesus but she didn't recognize that it was him, maybe it was still dark, maybe he looked a bit different, maybe she was was struggling to see through her tears.

16Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him. Then she cried out in the Aramaic language, “Rabboni!” Rabboni means Teacher.

17Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me. I have not yet returned to the Father. Instead, go to those who believe in me. Tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”

18Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news. She said, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

Jesus is alive
Tomorrow we are going to look at some things Jesus did after his resurrection , after he came back from the grave, but today we get to celebrate.
Jesus is alive
The Bible tells us that on the cross Jesus took the punishment that Gods people sin deserves, He took our place, which is great news but its only half of the story
When Jesus was resurrected, when he was raised back to life it was to prove to us that his death was enough to make us 100% right with God.

25Jesus was handed over to die for our sins. He was raised to life in order to make us right with God.

What Jesus did on the cross doesn't just take Gods people from being bad to just being neutral or just ok, .
Becuase of Jesus life, death, and resarecction God sees his people, Christians, AS IF they had lived the perfect life of Christ. We arent just ok its like we have lived a perfect life!

21Christ didn’t have any sin. But God made him become sin for us. So we can be made right with God because of what Christ has done for us.

John wanted people to know that in fact the reason he wrote his Gospel, his account of Jesus life is so that we, me and you and everyone else could

believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
