Martha welcomed Jesus (v. 38).

Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, and Mary listened to His Word (v. 39).

Martha was distracted and wanted Mary to be distracted too.

Martha was upset with Mary.

Martha was also upset with Jesus.

v. 39, Mary was seated. She was at the Lord’s feet. She was listening.

It is necessary and good to sit with the Lord.

unhurried time

It is necessary and good to sit at His feet.

humble position

It is necessary and good to sit and listen to Him.

willingness to obey

v. 40, Martha didn’t want to sit with Mary. She wanted Mary to be distracted with her.

v. 41, Martha was worried and bothered and (v. 40) distracted

v. 42, only one thing is necessary, the good part, which shall not be taken away from Mary
