Big idea

Tension: How do the disciples respond to the news of Jesus’ resurrection?
Answer: Some believe (the women, Peter), and some scoff.
Exegetical Idea: When news spreads to the disciples of Jesus’ resurrection, some of them believe and some scoff.
Theological Idea: Some believe in Jesus’ resurrection but some scoff.
Homiletical Idea: The reality of Christ’s resurrection is an opportunity to come home.
Introduction:
In Media Res: How would you respond to the women?
Exposition
The women reported: This is their eyewitness testimony
Came on the first day of the week (following Sabbath) (vs. 1)
Came with the spice (1)
Found the stone rolled away (2)
There was no body (2)
Two men in dazzling apparel; angelic messengers (5)
Living among the dead (5)
He is risen (6)
Crucified, on the third day, rise
They immediately reported it

As foolishness
Why? The message seemed to incredible
The messengers seemed to be too unreliable
They did not believe
As true
Last time we have seen Peter he has just betrayed Christ
He ran, arose
Investigated it
Peter came to himself
Worshipping
The resurrection of Jesus is a perfect time to come to ourselves, to come home, to believe
Maybe it seems to incredible to you, and there’s no way you could believe this message
Have your really investigated that assumption?
Maybe you are a long way off, and you wonder if you could really come home
Are you really any better than Peter
