Behold the Wonder of the Resurrection (1-12)

35 years had passed since his death. His sarcophagus had been moved 17 times until it came to its final spot in his hometown. Rumors had long circulated that perhaps his remains were not even in the casket. Once a Chicago crime boss had even plotted to still his remains and hold them in ransom. Finally, in 1901, with his only living son present, the casket of Abraham Lincoln was cut open and it was revealed. He was definitely still in the grave.
The wonder of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ centers on the fact that his followers did not expect it! No one did! His enemies were worried about his disciples stealing the body and so they sealed and guarded it carefully. But his disciples were frightened and hiding behind closed doors.
The scene - the stone rolled away and the body gone!
The earthquake and the angel (Matt. 28:2–4) opened the tomb, not to let Jesus out but to let the witnesses in. - Warren Wiersbe
The glorious brilliance of the angels stunned them into perplexing wonder, but far more wondrous was the GOOD NEWS they announced:
“Why do you seek the living among the dead? HE IS NOT HERE, for HE IS RISEN!”
See Peter run to the tomb and him process the fact that the grave clothes are still there, but the body is gone!

Hear the Witness of the Risen Lord (36-48)

The witness of his physical appearance!
His appearance to the two on the road to Emmaus.
The witness of his presence before the disciples - it was physical, not a phantom.
The witness of the Word. The Law, the Prophets, the Psalms.
Genesis 3:15 ESV
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
Exodus 12:13 ESV
The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
Isaiah 53:7–9 ESV
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.
Isaiah 53:11 ESV
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.
Job 19:25–27 ESV
For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!
Psalm 22:16–18 ESV
For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet— I can count all my bones— they stare and gloat over me; they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.
Psalm 22:27 ESV
All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you.
The whole Bible, 1500 years of recorded history, speaks of, points to and reveals the Lord Jesus Christ.

Continue in Worship of the Redeemer (49-53)

If ever there was a time when the world needs to hear the promise of redemption and the hope of the resurrection it is TODAY!
Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again for your justification.
It is the song of the church throughout all ages!
When we worship we declare the Risen Savior. When we worship we testify of His saving grace!
I serve a risen Savior, He’s in the World today! He Lives!
What love could remember no wrongs we had done? Omniscient, all-knowing, He counts not their sum! Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore, Our sins they are many, His mercy is more!
What riches of kindness He lavished on us, His blood was the payment His life was the cost!We stood neath a debt we could never afford, Our sins they are many, His mercy is more!
Praise the LORD, His mercy is more. Stronger than darkness, new every morn’, Our sins they are many, His mercy is more.
His death our pardon! His blood our redemption! His resurrection our victory!
