Good morning Church, what a beautiful day morning we have here this Easter morning. So glad you could join us this morning, don’t forget to drop your pictures in the comment section, we will be blessed to see your sweet faces this morning.
Please turn with me if you will to the book of Isaiah 53, Isaiah 53, were going to read and then we will get started.
Isaiah 53:1–12 NKJV
Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. And they made His grave with the wicked— But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.
Let us pray
Heavenly Father thank you for providing for our greatest need, thank you for making a way to be forgiven and thank you that you are alive today and you will return again for your people, we long for that day, we look for that day, and Lord we thank you for another day upon this Earth you created. Father I pray even now you are opening minds and hearts that people may believe the good news and their souls turn to you for eternal hope
In Jesus matchless name I pray amen
I want to speak to you on this subject: HERES COMES THE LAMB
At a wedding the church doors swing open, and as the bride walks down the aisle they play a tune called here comes the bride everyone in the congregation stands up in honor and respect, it is her day, it is her time to be noticed, to be seen, she is the center of attention all eyes are fixed upon her.
Today is resurrection day and the bridegroom Jesus Christ is risen, this morning I pray the church doors of your hearts swing open and we all fix our eyes upon the Lamb of God who comes to take away the sins of the world. HERE COMES THE LAMB
THE LAMB WHO WAS TO BE SLAIN FOR THE SINS OF THE WORLD
This idea of God providing something or someone to cover our sin debt has been painted through out the Bible. The Bible teaches us as we have seen that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.
Romans teaches us clearly that the penalty of sin is death, in short someone or something has to die in order for humans to be forgiven of their sins. Something or someone had to die for me to be forgiven of my sin, and something or someone had to die for you to be forgiven of your sins.
In the very first book of the Bible we see God’s final creation, mankind, it was the only creation he made that He said was VERY good. The Bible teaches us that we were created in the image of God, and this pleased the Lord. However in chapter 3 of the book of Genesis we find the serpent testing mankind to see if they will obey the instruction of the Lord.
You know how that turned out, they went against the command of god and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and they realized they were naked and they became ashamed and they hid themselves from the face of God.
But God came looking for them he found them and placed a curse on all humanity as well as on the serpent.
Genesis 3:14 NKJV
So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.
But in here we see the first glimpse of the gospel
Genesis 3:15 NKJV
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
This is a picture of a time that would be coming in the future where someone would be born to a woman and He would be the one to crush Satan and all of His power and break the curse of sin and death that rested on humanities head. But Adam and Eve still had a problem they had sinned and were naked.
Genesis 3:21 NKJV
Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
Here we have this picture of God taking the life of an animal to cover the nakedness of the man and woman, it speaks of Gods willingness to cover sin, but only if someone or something was killed could there be a covering for sin. He clothed them and yes there was consequences for their sin, they used to walk with god in the cool of the day but now since they had disobeyed they were spiritually blind and spiritually dead.
SO then there had to be a way for people to be forgiven of thier sins and so God instituted a sacrifical system where a lamb would be slain for the sins of His people.
All people are sinners and so a common question that would have been asked in those days would have been

WHERE IS THE LAMB?

This is the question we find later in the book of Genesis we find Abraham who is called the Father of faith, Abraham was called by God to do something unthinkable, God had promised Abraham a son and he had waited for so long for this son, and now the son is here and God asks him to do something unthinkable.
Genesis 22:1–2 NKJV
Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
Now without hesitation Abraham rose and went out and got his son and they headed to the destination lined out by the Lord for them to go. It didn’t take long for Isaac to figure things out and he says to Abraham
Genesis 22:7 NKJV
But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
Abraham was honest in his response He trusted in who God was and surely God would not require his only son as a burnt offering. But he responds
Genesis 22:8 NKJV
And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
This is the first place in Genesis where we find this idea of a substitution a life for a life that God would provide for Himself as a sacrifice!
We know how the story unfolds God right as Abraham is about to sacrifice his only son, God sends a ram to be caught in a thicket and if it weren’t for that ram at just the right moment Isaac would have been the sacrifice but he would always for the rest of His life would have been able to remember that God provided a substitute.
This idea of substitution runs all the way through the Bible, when you get into the book of Exodus you get into the story of the passover and the exodus of the people out of slavery in Egypt.
On that Passover night there was a death in every house in Egypt and the question that would have been asked by every Jewish boy is where is the Lamb?
The word that had been given by God was that they had to take a Lamb without spot or blemish and it was to be killed and its blood was to be sprinkled on the doorposts and on that evening where the egyptians had no sheltering blood they faced the sad death of the firstborn, where in the houses of Israel you would have gone in the morning to find the firstborn in that house was still alive, but there laid in the home the body of a lamb that had been sacrificed providing protection for those who took protection beneath its blood.
Thats Exodus and then when you go into Leviticus you get into the picture of the shedding of the blood of the lamb the the sins of the people being placed on a scapegoat and being driven out of the city. The priest laid His hands on the head of the goat and recited the iniquities and isns of the people.
This live goat that was identified with and loaded down with the sins of the people was driven out and symbolically carried away all of their iniquity never to be seen again, the picture continues to unfold causing the people to move from asking WHERE IS THE LAMB...
to

WHO IS THE LAMB?

You have to wait until you get here to Isaiah Where you come to our text this morning, where we find that ultimately only a person can substitute for a person. Because if you think about it people sin willingly, therefore an animal did not willingly offer itself up as a sacrifice the animal was forced it had no choice in it, it was to point forward to the One who would come willingly offer Himself up as a sacrifice for sins.
A person needs to be substituted for a person.
Here in Isaiah we hear about what this person was going to be like… but we also find that it is going to be hard for people to believe...
Isaiah 53:1 NKJV
Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
This is a rhetorical question in implied that in spite of these prophecies and others only few would recognize the suffering Servant when he appeared. WHO BELIEVES THIS MORNING THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD!
This passage tells us that there was nothing impressive about Him at all, born to a poverty stricken town, to a young mother and the son of a carpenter, many who saw Him do miracles would say is this not the carpenters son? CAN ANYTHING GOOD COME FROM NAZARETH?
This was written hundreds of years before the birth and life of Jesus.... but this passage is describing what this Lamb of God would be like
Isaiah 53:2 NKJV
For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
There was nothing about Jesus in is appearance that would have made people think HERE IS THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.
HE DIDN’T WEAR SPECIAL CLOTHING OR TALK IN SUCH A SPECIAL WAY....
It would be highly unlikely that we would have been able to determine who Jesus was unless we walked up while He was teaching or working a miracle.
He was unremarkable, He had no form or majesty and He was rejected by men.
He wasn’t even that good looking even though we have the most handsome men play Jesus.... but this was not Jesus He was just another one of the crowd except for when He spoke or moved miraculously.
This is why the Jews missed it.
Isaiah 53:3 NKJV
He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Listen we have Jesus as the coolest of characters in our culture, but this was not true, we try to be eloquent when we speak as if Jesus was, we try to act like we have it all together but I want you to know the reason why the least of these are staying so far away from churches today is because we have tried to become attractive and attract them to Jesus, can I be honest.
If we truly want to be like Jesus we must be so close to Him that we show His humility.
I’m nothing special but I know someone who is, I am nothing without Jesus ONLY THE LORD CAN REVEAL THE MESSIAH TO PEOPLE!
Not our attractiveness not our strategy, not our abilities only the Lord can open blind eyes and cleanse dirty hearts!
We have seen in this last week of Jesus’ life people rejected him when He did not meet their expectations of Him.
This is why He was a man of sorrows aquainted with grief this is why He wept over the city because they did not recognize the time of their visitation.... He was broken hearted over the blind eyes and hard hearts of the ones He came to save.
I believe there is someone who will watch this today who is pushing away from Jesus just as hard you can but Jesus is applying pressure to your heart bc He loves you. DONT HIDE YOUR FACE FROM HIM TODAY
We all do it we try to hide who we truly are and that breaks the Lords heart.
But He wil also be heavy hearted bc
Isaiah 53:4 NKJV
Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
Amazingly the people who were shouting crucify Him crucify Him thought they were doing God a favor by putting Him to death, they thought Jesus was dying for HIs own sins but rather He was bearing the sins of the world on His shoulders.
Isaiah 53:5 NKJV
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:6 NKJV
All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Let me tell you something we have all turned our own way and we need a lamb and Isiaah tells us this Lamb will come and now that we stand on the other side of the cross we know He has come.
Jesus the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world
Without spot or blemish, He is tried at night beaten afflicted he is beaten with a cat of nine tails explain, the punishment which brought us peace was upon Him
HE WAS WOUNDED
A crown of thorns for His brow, a a spear in His side, AS THIS LAMB HANG THERE ON THE TREE AND BLOOD AND WATER FLOWED OUT OF HIS SIDE AT THIS TIME THE PASSOVER TRADITION WAS BEING HELD AND ON ONE SIDE OF THE CITY THEY WERE SACRIFICING A LAMBLIKE THEY HAD ALWAYS DONE BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CITY GOD THE FATHER WAS SACRIFICING HIS LAMB!
(cisterns in the TEMPLE)
Isaiah 53:7 NKJV
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.
The Bible tells us while Jesus was tried He uttered not a word
YOU TELL ME TODAY WHO IS THE LAMB?
Isaiah 53:8 NKJV
He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS
WHO IS THE LAMB?
Isaiah 53:9 NKJV
And they made His grave with the wicked— But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
HE DIED BETWEEN TWO SINNERS ON THE CROSS THAT DAY..... YOU TELL ME WHO IS THE LAMB?
HE BURIED WITH THE RICH AT HIS DEATH
THE BIBLE RECORDS JOSEPH OF ARIMETHEA WHO WAS WEALTHY GAVE HIM HIS TOMB..... YOU TELL ME WHO IS THE LAMB?
HE HAD DONE NO VIOLENCE AND NEVER LIED PILATE FOUND NO FAULT IN HIM YOU TELL ME WHO IS THE LAMB?
Notice the mercy of God...
Isaiah 53:10 NKJV
Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
HOW IS HE GONNA PROLONG HIS DAYS? IF HE IS DEAD HOW DOES HE PROLONG HIS DAYS?
Well let me tell you what happened on Easter
THE LADIES WENT TO THE TOMB TO VISIT THEIR LORD AND WHEN THEY GOT THERE THEY FOUND AN AMAZING SIGHT THE STONE WAS ROLLED AWAY FROM THE DOOR
THE GUARDS WERE MISSING.... HE IS RISEN....
He is not just the dying Lamb HE IS THE RISING LAMB
How can He prolong His days?
Because He is going to be given a kingdom that shall never end
Daniel 7:13–14 NKJV
“I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.
WHO IS THE LAMB
IT IS JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.
Isaiah 53:11 NKJV
He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.
These women went to the tomb that first Easter morning…
Matthew 28:1–8 NKJV
Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
Can I tell you something?
People have a hard time believing it but Jesus is the only Lamb that God the Father ever sent, He is the only way you can be justified, MAKES ME JUST IF I’D NEVER SINNED
LEt me tell you something even if someone rises from the grave Jesus says hard hearted people will not believe.... but I think there may be someone who wil watch this and you know in your heart this is for you today and what a beautiful day to give your life to the Lamb.
HE IS ALIVE AND HE IS DRAWING YOU TODAY
Church now then we have this eternal hope… Jesus is coming again…
YOU KNOW ISAIAH RECEIVED A VISION OF WHAT THIS SUFFERING SERVANT LOOKED LIKE AND IT LOOKED JUST LIKE JESUS BUT PEOPLE DID NOT RECOGNIZE HIM.
CAN I TELL YOU THERE IS ANOTHER ONE WHO RECIVED A VISION MANY YEARS AFTER THE DISCIPLES SAW JESUS RISE FROM THE GRAVE?
His name was John and He is known as the Revelator, He was given a revelation a vision of the throne room of Heaven and He talks about a scroll, WHICH IS THE TITLE DEED TO EARTH THE LORD WHO CREATED THE EARTH AND OWNS IT ALL IS SEATED GOD THE FATHER IS SEATED ON HIS THRONE.... and all of Heaven weeps because they look for someone who is worthy to open the scroll and come and take back all of creation.
Revelation 5:1 NKJV
And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
Revelation 5:2 NKJV
Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”
Revelation 5:3 NKJV
And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.
Revelation 5:4 NKJV
So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.
This sounds tragic this title deed which means all of Earth can be reclaimed by God they found no one in Johns vision worthy to open it...
I guess all earth will remain under the curse of sin, I guess things will always be this way, there will always be temptaion we will always lose loved ones, we will always hurt and have sickness....
BUT ALL OF THIS SADNESS SHIFTS IN A MOMENT, AS ONE OF THE ELDER SAID:

HERE COMES THE LAMB!

Revelation 5:5 NKJV
But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
Revelation 5:6 NKJV
And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
Revelation 5:7 NKJV
Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.
Revelation 5:8 NKJV
Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Revelation 5:9 NKJV
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
Revelation 5:10 NKJV
And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.”
LISTEN TO ME CHURCH there is coming a day when the Lord shall return
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 NKJV
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
HE ALONE IS ABLE TO IDENTIFY WITH SINNERS HE ALONE MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS TO SET US FREE!!
(graveyard)
Cecil Francis Alexander wrote a hymn for children that said this:
“Within the church yard side by side are many long low graves
and some have stones set over them and some the green grass waves
fulll many a Christian child woman and man lies there
and we pass near them every time when we go into prayer
They cannot hear our footsteps come, they do not see us pass
they cannot feel the warm bright sun, that shines upon the grass
they do not hear the great bell when it rings over head
They cannot rise and come to church with us for they are dead
BUT WE BELIEVE A DAY SHALL COME WHEN ALL THE DEAD WILL RISE
WHEN THEY WHO SLEEP DOWN IN THE GRASS WILL OPEN AGAIN THEIR EYES!
FOR CHRIST OUR LORD WAS BURIED ONCE HE DIED AND ROSE AGAIN HE CONQUERED DEATH HE LEFT THE GRAVE
AND SO WILL CHRISTIAN MEN.
SO WHEN THE FRIENDS WE LOVE THE BEST LIE IN THEIR CHURCHYARD BED
WE MUST NOT CRY TOO BITTERLY OVER THE HAPPY DEAD
BC FOR OUR DEAR SAVIORS SAKE OUR SINS ARE ALL FORGIVEN
AND CHRISTIANS ONLY FALL ASLEEP TO WAKE AGAIN IN HEAVEN
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL TRUTH
HE IS NOT HERE HE IS RISEN TODAY AND WE SHALL RISE BECAUSE HE IS RISEN WILL YOU RISE WITH US?
WHO IS THE LAMB?
OR AS JESUS ASKED IT
WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?
(Let’s Pray)
