Intorduction

I personally consider Resurrection Sunday as the culmination of God’s plan to provide opportunity for man to be restored to Him. As I was getting to know more about God through scripture I once ask the question: Which is more important, Christ’s Birth or Christ’s Resurrection? It is like asking which is more important in a car, the engine or the wheels? Both are important. There would be no resurrection if Christ was not born. Restoring man to God as plan would have not been executed if some component was missing. The same goes with the car, it cannot run with either the engine or the wheel missing. Asking that kind of question was part of my desire to fully grasp the importance of Christ’s resurrection for anyone who wants to be saved from eternal damnation. Today’s message comes from several parts of the Bible woven into one thought and that’s the importance of Christ’s resurrection to the non-believer and to those who already believe. Let’s begin!

1. JESUS, WHO IS HE

John 11:25–26 NASB95
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
In this verse He directly declares that He is the source of resurrection and life.
This truth demands a response. This truth is very important. It is a matter of life and death.
There is a cause and effect here: BELIEVE and you will be save.
It is for anyone and everyone.
It is a promise, it is the truth!

2. WHAT FOOLS THINK ABOUT HIM? WHO IS THE ACTUAL FOOL?

1 Corinthians 1:18 NASB95
18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Some will believe and some won’t.
According to Paul that those who reject this truth consider it as foolishness.
But who is the fool? Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools - Romans 1:22.
God declared in Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The difference between His intelligence and ours is the distance between the ground in where you are standing and the heavens.
There is no distinct boundary between the atmosphere and space, but an imaginary line about 62 miles (100 kilometers) from the surface, called the Karman line, is usually where scientists say atmosphere meets outer space.
In school and student’s intelligence can be compared to another by the grade system, ex. A+, A, A- etc.
Man thinks we have a different way but Jesus said I AM THE ONLY WAY - John 14:6
Man’s pride declares that he (creation) knows more than God (creator). This is pride in action. Pride is when you think of yourself higher than anyone else.
God has a word for one who has pride - PRIDE COMES BEFORE THE FALL! - Prov.16:18

3. CAUSE AND EFFECT OF HIS RESURRECTION

1 Peter 1:3 NASB95
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
We give God all the credit, the glory.
Salvation through Christ was His plan and every perfect plan comes from above.
This describes how God is so merciful and this is to our benefit.
He holds our future, eternity is held in His hands. This spells security. God is God and He never fails!
In this verse He mentions the term “born again.” We are “TO BE” born again. Why? To be BORN AGAIN is a chance to be given a NEW LIFE, and that LIFE leads to life in eternity in the presence of a loving God INSTEAD OF THE ABSENCE OF HIM.
I remember as a child, our family went to a fair, I lost track of my parents. All the while I was assuming that I was with them but the moment a realize I got separated from them, fear started developing but as soon as I found them I clung to one of their hands tightly and felt relieved and clung tightly never to let go again.
But in the case of the Heavenly Father, He is the one who clings to His children from a security stand point.
John 10:29 NASB95
29 “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
Deuteronomy 31:6 NASB95
6 “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”
My faith, my trust is anchored on this truth. God who never fails, who never lies, who fulfills all and who does what He says, who fulfills all His promises.
As a human being I’m not perfect because the work of sanctification is not completed yet. All will be done once and for all when I am in His presence when He that time comes when He will clothe me with the highly anticipated “glorified body.”

4. BEING IN CHRIST, DEATH NO LONGER HAS A HOLD ON ME.

Romans 6:8–11 NASB95
8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
We were suppose to die on the cross to pay for our sins but Christ instead died on the cross so that we may live - to be with God in eternity.
To die with Christ means to believed that He died for your sins.
Colossians 3:3–5 NASB95
3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. 5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
Before Christ died on the cross, one thing He declared - “It is finished.”
What is finished? The ultimate death, the only death that paid for the penalty of my sin. This is the kind of death that will have life-long eternal consequence to those who believed.
He did it once, not having the need to do it all over again. Which follows that genuine faith is given to us once and it is to be develop on our way to heaven.
You only have to declare you faith once but it is to be lived out everyday.
As children of God through faith in Him, we are no longer in bondage to sins related to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. We should no longer have anything to do with because we ought to live our new life from from all of them.

5. THE GOSPEL

John 3:16 NASB95
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
For what it is, God’s love is undeniable. In other words only fools will reject it knowing the rewards that come with it.
The promise of eternal life to those who believe - to submit to Him as Lord and Savior. Knowing will not save you, it is a decision based on what you know about God and what Christ has done for you is what God will respond to by saving you.
Hebrews 11:6 NASB95
6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Let’s put it simply, it only we you trust in Him that He will respond to you with salvation.
God will honor those who honor Him.
One prideful person would ask “WHAT HAS GOD DONE FOR ME LATELY?” Perhaps not lately because even before you were born He knew you had to be saved and that’s why He sent His Son to die for your sins. He was punished in your behalf. He did the first move by sending His Son to die for your sins.

6. “DEATH WHERE IS YOUR STING?”

1 Corinthians 15:55–57 NASB95
55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The moment we were born here on earth was started dying?
Being born poses some health risk, life risk? Why do you think doctors and nurses are involve in the whole process?
The Sting comes before the pain. Sin was committed then death followed.
If a honeybee stings you, remove the stinger immediately will help curb the amount of toxins released into your skin. ... Icing the sting site is the most effective way to reduce venom absorption. It also can help reduce swelling.
The sting of death is SIN and what did the blood of Jesus do? He washed our sins away with His blood. So when the sting is removed (washed away) the pain subside, swelling is reduced or if we transpose it to the case of sin and death, He washed our sins away.
Acts 2:24 NASB95
24 “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

7. DEATH THROUGH SUBSTITUTION and APPRECIATION FOR A REACTION

Isaiah 53:4–5 NLT
4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
He died so we don’t have to die - spiritually.
We still have to die physically in order to be clothed with our new glorified bodies.
We still have to die because it was for our spirit (our true self) that He came to die for.
Knowing and realizing the pain and trouble He had to go through we out to fall on our knees and bow down NOT IN DISBELIEF but in BELIEF!
Anybody want to die in an electric chair for someone’s crime?
If you commit a crime you will be punished for it, the world’s justice systems has no room for substitutes. But with the heavenly God, the Heavenly Judge, anytime and all the time but only throughout your life time. And that’s the only time you can be save. The moment you cross to eternity, you won’t have time anymore. The offer of Christ expires after you expire!

8. THE UNTHINKABLE

Romans 8:34 NASB95
34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
In God’s justice system, the judge not only declares punishment but He can also be the one that gets punished.
He is back now in at home at the right hand side of the Father continually interceding for us.
Are you at home in Christ?

9. CONFESSION LEADING TO PROFESSION

Romans 10:9 NASB95
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
The work of salvation is hard, it is impossible for us to save ourselves through our own deeds. But He made it simple and possible and so all we have to do is respond in faith.
Here’s the picture:
WHO: Jesus Son of God.
WHAT: Perfect and Holy, God in human flesh.
WHY: As hopeless sinners deserve to die in eternity, had to save us from eternal damnation which we deserved.
HOW: Died in our behalf on the cross.
HE IS THE ONLY WAY and no other way! John 14:6

10. HAVING THE ATTITUDE

Philippians 2:5–11 NLT
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
